Surnames: Foster Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/610 Message Board Post: I am researching the death of my ggrandfather in Cotton Plant, Woodruff County on August 15, 1915. The following appeared in a newspaper, but we don't know which one: Article on John C. Foster's death dated August 27, 1915: "Foster was unarmed and was in his shirt sleeves aiding in strengthening the levee on the White River when Deputy Sheriff James Hill rode up and demanded $85 which he alleged Foster owed him. Spectators say Foster denied owing him the money and that hot words were exchanged, after which Hill pulled an automatic revolver and fired. The bullet pierced Foster's heart and he fell dead. Hill then rode away and disappeared in the White river bottoms. Posses are searching for him. Foster was contractor for the construction of the dump for the Cotton Plant & Southwestern railroad which is being built from this place. Funeral arrangements have been delayed pending the arrival of relatives from Greeley and Lincoln NE. Hill was at his home in the White river bottoms, and the officers seemed perfectly satisfied to allow him to remain there. Hill was seen at McClelland Aug 24 and he sent a message to the deputy sheriff in Cotton Plant telling the officer he could come and get him if he w! ished, but on account of the floods he said he preferred to remian with his family until the water subsided. Hill said he would come in and surrender as soon as the water begins to fall." I would like to find out ANYTHING. He was buried in Brinkley, Woodruff County, but don't know where. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
