Major Benjamin Stites married a Mary Polly MILLS and it was found to be a bigamist situation. She left him and took the children she had by him, back to her family, not sure if it was in New Jersey or they were in and around PA at the time. Then she remarried and I believe it was too a man of the WOODRUFF name. This family is very wide spread and went from there all over the place. I know that this database is also on other genealogy sites too. It may take a little creative sleuthing to tie them together, because when they move from one part of the country, to another it makes for a little more confusion.
