"Woodruff County, Arkansas Loose Probate Records" Abstracted by Marion Stark Craig, MD and Edited by Desmond Walls Allen. On page 70, re: John R. Shelton, Drawer 6, Folio 22, Roll 37. John R. Shelton was born 2 September 1831, per the order for his tombstone. He died 22 December 1878. In January 1879, James R. Shelton and Mary E. Shelton appointed administrators. Heirs: Mrs. Mary E. Shelton, the widow; and James Robert,Thomas, Loula, Manerva, Eddie, Annie G. and Willie Shelton. Also in this folio are papers on the estate of a James. N. Shelton, deceased, whose administrator was John R. Jelks, who was appointed in 1867. There is a promissory note for $500.00 borrowed from Chesly Davis, co-signed as security by J. L. Shelton. On 3 July 1867, the widow of J. L. Shelton acknowledged the note was unpaid. On 7 February 1867, the firm of Pritchard and Thomas of New Orleans told the Woodruff County Court that Thomas R., Edward N., John R. Shelton were of "full age" and heirs of James Shelton who had died "several years ago" leaving a large estate. A summons of 23 February 1867 required the three to come to court and explain why they had not administered the estate. Also misfiled in this folio are several papers on the estate of Edward N. Shelton, deceased, of folios 17, 19, and 20 above. There are also papers on the estate of James L. Shelton. I hope this is what you were looking for and it will help in the search for your ancestors. Sincerely, Jeannie
