Hey Folks - this individual asked if this could be sent to the Woodruff County list. I have no particular knowledge of this, but it's a genealogical meeting, so, may be of interest to someone... Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/818.2 Message Board Post: Hello Shirlianne, I have done some extensive research on this family and this is what I have in my files; Virginia Mann York, wife of William Alfred York, was born in 1860 in Amelia Co., VA. She married about 1848 to William Alfred York and they had 7 children of which I have record. Virginia Mann York died 1860 in Cotton Plant, Woodruff Co., AR at the age of 28 years. William Alfred York died February 15, 1871 in Cotton Plant, AR. I have not been able to locate their burial place, and they are not listed in the Woodruff County Cemetery records. William Alfred York married again about 1866 to Rowena "Rosa" Pegram (no dates on her). They had 2 children; Alonzo T. York born 1867 and James E. York born October 7, 1870. I have no record of William Alfred York marring a Margaret. Hope this helps. Best regards, Gary Telford Family Roots Woodruff County Monitor McCrory, AR

William York lived in Cotton Plant, St Francis Co (now Woodruff) in 1860. Also interested in knowing whether William York married a young woman named Margaret York (living in his house in 1860) and her heritage and subsequent life/death. There is also an unexplained child named Alonzo, age 3, in the 1870 census. Alonzo is not the child of Virginia Mann or William's second or third wife Rosana. Would love to hear from anyone who has information on any person in this message.

His Social Security Card was issued in Iowa and the number was 481-05-4129. The death index does not list his residence at time of death. I have a form that you can sign and send to the Social Security Administration and they will send you his records that will tell you where he died and where he was buried and much more information that will be very valuable to you. The cost is $27.00 and is well worth the money. When you know the city where he died you can obtain an obituary from the local paper. If you would like me to send uou this form, just let me know. Hope this helps. Best regards, Gary Telford Family Roots Woodruff County Monitor McCrory, AR 72101
