I write a lot of family histories of people who have lived and died in Woodruff County and in checking my files I don't have any family history on Henry Hutson. Did he have other relativies who lived here? Anything you can provide will be greatly appreciated. You can view some of my stories on the Woodruff County Arkansas genealogy web site. There is also an Island in the Mississippi River that was called Belle Point. It is part of Chicot co., but in Pioneers and Makers of Ar. it says Belle Point on the White River. Unless the author of the book read the records wrong. Again thanks for responding. Martha Case

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/821.1 Message Board Post: Hello Martha, This may not help but the Belle Point which is most popular in our Arkansas History was located on a hill overlooking the confluence of the Arkansas and Poteau River in northwest Arkansas, founded in 1817 to ease tensions between the Osage and Cherokee tribes. On Christmas Day 1817, Major William Bradford arrived at Belle Point and established Fort Smith. The area had already been settled by white men. It was later the site of the first Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Fort was closed in 1824, and intermittently occupied through the 1830's. The Belle Point is a very historic place now located in Sebastian Co., AR. There is an old historic cemetery there, consisting of 21 acres with almost 10,000 graves, among them Judge Isaac Parker "The Hanging Judge" and "Darby's Rangers" founder William O. Darby. In Pioneers and Makers of Arkansas it says that "At Belle Point on the White River Augustin John Friend had a home dating back to 1793, and his neighbor Charles Furnish , from 1801. Because of the way the paragraph is worded I feel that Belle Point is on the lower part of the White River. I know that after almost 200 years the river has probably changed course and that this name may have been forgotten. I am hoping that someone can remember. Thank you. Martha Case
Hi Kaye - There's a little bit here on Union Cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arwoodru/cemetery/allcem.htm It says that it's: Located one mile north of US Hwy. 64, 6 miles east of Augusta, and five miles west of McCrory. Re the Augusta Newspaper, yes indeed there was one. It was probably the Augusta Advocate - I'll have to look it up. I've looked it up in the book "The Cemetery Records of Woodruff County, Arkansas (vol 1)". There are two Henry Hutsons listed: Hutson, Henry Allen, Jr., b. Dec. 1, 1961, d. Dec. 3, 1961 Hutson, Henry Allen, b. June 28, 1914, d. May 5, 1970 The books also have maps showing locations of cemeteries - I'll have to scan them and post them sometime on the web site at rootsweb.com. You might also call Rhodes Funeral Home in Augusta and see if they can send you any more information. Sometimes their records are helpful. I am very young, but thought it was interesting that the same name was posted.
