Surnames: Johnson/Johnston/Fennell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AW.2ADE/839.1.1 Message Board Post: My cousin, Martha Wade, has compiled a great deal of "Morris Fennell" history, much of which can be verified. Unfortunately, the info we have on his 2nd-to-last wife, Sallie Johnson is scanty and mostly oral history. She married Morris Fennell in 1888, in Union Co. They had 5 children: Eddie (F) 1888-1970; Ike Arie (M) 1889-1950; Franklin (M) 1891 -1963; Warren Wesley (M) 18?? - 1917; and Willie Emma (F) Jan. 29, 1898 - 1986. Supposedly, Sallie Johnson Fennell died in 1900, cause of death: "bled to death." Sallie Johnson is burried in Scotland Cemetary, Union Co. (I have seen her headstone, but it was many, many years ago) Morris Fennell is burried in Caldonia Cemetary, Union Co. (I have seen his headstone, also) Willie Emma is my GM. She married Grady Samples (or Staples) Harris (born in TX). One of their daughters, Helen Ruth Harris Moser is my Mom. I want very much to find out about Sallie Johnson!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/839.1 Message Board Post: Hello Margaret, I have some information on Morris D. Fennell in my files as follows; Morris D. Fennell was born 1824 in South Carolina and died February 9, 1901 in Union Co., AR. He was married first to Jane E. ??. He was married second to Rachel McCuller on January 17, 1848 in Stewart Co., GA. Children by this marriage was; John, Washington Ivey, Mary Julliette, and George Hamption, born August 9, 1849 in Sterling, GA and died 1879 in Hunt, Texas. George Hampton Fennell was married to Martha Thomas Robinson in 1872 in Scott Co., AR and they had at least four children; Lonnie, Edward D., Wiley, and George Washington Fennell, born April 6, 1874 in Greenville, TX. George died November November 9, 1952 in Antlers, OK. He married Rebecca Ann Baker, born May 9, 1872 in Illinois on July 25, 1896 and they had eight known children. He married Oma Ann Frances, born January 16, 1896, in 1915. They had eleven known children. He later married Rendy Tiner. He married Minnie Hawkins born 1882 in 1928! . He married Erma Inez Cannada in 1939 and had one known child, Teddy Inez Fennell. Morris D. Fennell maried Sarah "Sallie" Johnston who died in 1899. I don't have a record of their children. After the death of Sarah he married Julia Louisa ??, on December 24, 1900 in Union Co., AR. I also have notes in my file regarding the possibility of Sarah "Sallie" Johnston could may have been Cherokee Indian and was adopted by the Johnston family as a small child, apparently, several small children and their mother were fond and taken in. The mother was ill and died. My notes also state that Morris D. Fennell served in the Civil War, CSA from about 1861 to 1863 and was wounded at Corinth, MS. He was captured and paroled at Vicksburg. On July 11, 1863 he surrendered at Vicksburg. In 1870 he is found on the census in Brazos Co., Texas. In 1882 he was in Union Co., AR. Who was your grandmother, and your mother, I will check and see what I have for them. Hope this helps. Best regards, Gary Telford Family Roots Woodruff County Monitor

"The Great Wagon Road and the Trek Westward" will be presented by Dr. William Lindsey, noted genealogist, publisher and educator, at the Tri-County Genealogical Society meeting Sunday, March 14. The meeting will be at the genealogy library in Marvell, AR at 2 p.m. The primary focus of the presentation will be to provide clues for those whose ancestral research is "stuck" in some region west of Pennsylvania or Virginia, but who have strong reason to believe their ancestors came from one of those states, with roots reaching back to the colonial period. The presentation will focus in particular on families that made the trek down the Great Wagon Road from Pennsylvania to Virginia and the Carolinas, and then migrated west. The lecture will suggest a number of approaches to bridge the gap between the period/area in which researchers may be stuck, and colonial Pennsylvania/Virginia. The point of the lecture will not be to provide an exhaustive overview of genealogical research in Pennsylvania and Virginia, but to assist researchers who are beyond the beginning stage, as they try to push backwards to Virginia and Pennsylvania. Dr. Lindsey is a Little Rock native who grew up both in Little Rock and El Dorado. He has a B. A. in English from Loyola University in New Orleans, an M. A. in English from Tulane, and an M. A. and Ph. D. in theology from the University of St. Michael's College, Toronto. In addition to having published a number of genealogical articles, he is the author of many scholarly articles in his academic field. Dr. Lindsey has over 30 years of genealogical research experience, with a primary focus on Southern families, as well as his one 'immigrant' line, his Irish great-grandmother and her family. Guests are welcome. Contact wridge@hnb.com for directions, if needed.

I am very much wanting a copy of her marriage record and was wondering if anyone would be willing to do this for a reasonable price? She married a William Miller and I have the date (or at least year) for anyone who would be willing to copy it for me. I'm also wondering if any Thompsons from Woodruff County are having a tough time researching their lines. I know several of my gr-gr grandfather's siblings disappeared and I do not know their whereabouts for sure from 1870 on and am hoping maybe to reconnect and learn what happened to them.
