    3. I am trying to find a cemetery. I don't know exactly where it is. I have been told that it is on Highway 17. Highway 64 goes East out of Augusta and meets Highway 17 going North to Newport, a few miles west of McCrory. I don't know the name of it. It is possible that it is in Woodruff Co., Also. I would appreciate any help in locating this Cemetery. Thanks Charlotte Christensen

This site gives us so many great opportunities. Yes, Cora Nelson was the wife of my Uncle John Wade Junior. She was born May 28, 1897, and died July 25, 1981. I would assume she is buried in the Hunter Cemetery, since that is where my Uncle John is buried. I never knew her personally, but my Mother, Julia Ann Junior Moore, corresponded with her. One thing I want to give credit to her for is that she opened her home to my Grandmother, Martha Jane "Mattie" Kennedy, Junior, Henard, Stewart, Reiff. She was living in their home when her son John died on August 30, 1943, when a load of railroad ties rolled off the wagon on him. She loved John so much, that many claimed it broke her heart so badly that she followed him in death on October 1, 1943. Email me if you wish to. Evelyn

    2. Wanda, Thanks for the rapid reply. I did check with a Funeral Home in Wynne and was told there would be no death certificate for 1918 but, you know, it didn't occur to me to check on one for Anna Belle for 1923. Good thought. I didn't check with a funeral Home in McCrory because I thought, since they were living in Fair Oaks at the time that would be the appropriate starting point. I will check in McCrory again. I would appreciate it if you could check the index for early death certificates if you can. Thanks again. Duaine

    1. Sophronia Dallas Ferguson
    2. Looking for the grave of Sophronia Dallas Ferguson (sometimes called "Fronie"). She was born abt 1874 in MS, married Jarred Alfred Ferguson and moved to Arkansas. Lived in Fair Oaks, AR and raised a family. Died 1918 in AR and I have reason to believe she was buried in a cemetery off the "road between Fairoaks and McCrory". Have searched in various records and actually searched on the ground to no avail. Probably buried next to a daughter Anna Belle Ferguson d. 1923. Can anyone help? Duaine Evans

She went to California with a soldier and left the girls in a small (very small) trailer on the Cache River. This information was given to me in 1978 by Lucille Miller who was acquainted with the Short family. Her father bought some land from my grandfather. She lived at Revels at that time. My grandfather is listed in the Woodruff Co Rivers and Roads in Between as a student in 1907 McCrory School I was hoping you might have some information on these families. My other family I am researching is Margaret Garrett (widowed) married to Samuel Stephenson. They are listed in 1880 Woodruff Co Augusta Twsp. For Almontine I first find her in 1860 Lafayette Co with husband Biven B Short. Don't know what happens to him after that. Between 1870 and 1880 Almontine married and divorced Lemuel Byrd. Almontine and Biven were married 1847 Heard Co GA. The marriage records were lost in a fire so don't have a copy. Do not know her maiden name. Children were born in Randolph Co Alabama before moving onto Union Co Ar then to Lafayette and then to White Co. You state you research the families. Are you connected to any of the families or is it just a hobby of yours. Thanks for any info you might have. Deborah Magnolia TX

I write a weekly column for the Woodruff County Monitor newspaper located in McCrory, Woodruff Co., AR which is published every Wednesday. It is called Family Roots and is about the history of Woodruff County and the history of families who have lived and died here. I am also a member of the board for the Woodruff County Historical Society. I also write a column for the Sunday edition of the Searcy Daily Citizen, located in Searcy, White Co., AR, on history of White County and families who have lived and died there. I am also a member of the White County Historical Society and the Independence County, AR Historical Society. I just had a story published in the South Reporter newspaper, Holly Springs, Marshall Co., MS regarding a family who had lived there and later came to Woodruff County, AR. Many of my family histories are in the Library at Searcy and Bald Knob, AR. I have been researching families now for 20 years and I never get tired of it. Thanks for your time.
