Surnames: Leach, Burford, Huckabee Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/864 Message Board Post: I have the marriage bond of Martha A. Leach (age 28) and William Isaac Huckabee (age 30) in Woodruff County, 19 April 1884. The surety of the bond was a D.P. Burford. I have tried to connect by census D.P. Burford to M.A. Leach but have not been able to. Martha and Wm later moved to Texas and I found it listed that she and both of her parents were born in Georgia. This marriage was the second marriage for Wm Huckabee but I don't know if it was for Martha. Only Wm brought children into the marriage as far as I can find. Martha has long been of interest to me. She died in about 1901 when my grandfather was 16. He never talked about her and no one ever ask. I would be grateful for any information on her. Thanks ...

    1. Lillian Elizabeth Swanson Lawhon
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/862 Message Board Post: Lillian Elizabeth Swanson Lawhon Lillian Elizabeth Swanson Lawhon, beloved resident of McCrory, went hone to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Woodruff County Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for several months. She was 84 years of age. Services were held June 8 at the First United Methodist Church in McCrory with Rev. J. Anthony Holifield officiating. Assisting him was the pastor of McCrory Methodist Church, Rev. Stephen Waggoner. Interment was in Fakes Cemetery. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Director of McCrory and Wynne were in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lawhon was born November 28, 1919 in Cotton Plant, the daughter of the late Frank William and Annie Elizabeth McLemore Swanson. She moved to McCrory with her family at an early age and was a honor graduate of McCrory High School in 1938 and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1942. It was there she met the love of her life, Jay Noah Lawhon. They were married October 6, 1943 and spent 60 years together before his death in November of 2003. "Mrs. Lil" taught history, algebra, geography and business math in the McCrory Schools until she became partner and bookkeeper for the family business, Lawhon Farm Services in McCrory, retiring from there in 1985. She was a member of McCrory First United Methodist Church since January 1954 and was an active and integral part of the church and its activities as long as her health permitted. Her interest and concern for others and her generosity and creativity set her apart. Gifts of large print books to those with limited ! vision, subscriptions to the McCrory Newspaper, Guidepost and Ideals magazines were enjoyed and cherished by many. Those with no place to go were welcomed in her home as were friends and relatives. Her priorities were her church, husband, mealtime and ball games until son Noal was added to this list. As time passed, a daughter-in-law, grandchildren and a great-grandchild were integrated into her life. A non-pretentious lady, she was unselfish and proved this by doing for others and backing her husband in his ventures, things she did with great joy. McCrory has lost a great lady, but our loss is heaven's gain. Survivors are one son, Jay Noal Lawhon II and wife Joanna of Sherwood, one brother Charles Swanson and wife Vickie of McCrory, one grandson, Thane Joal "T.J." Lawhon and his fiance Amanda Gibson of McCrory; one granddaughter, Sheree Stasia Winder and husband Bob of Bauxite; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Winder of Bauxite; as well as many relatives and a host of friends. Casketbearers were J.T. Swanson, Jimmy Swanson. Frank Swanson, Bobby Swanson, Kenny Swanson and Donald Swanson. The family requests memorials be made to the UAMS Cancer Research Center; 114 Illinois Bayou Drive; North Little Rock, Arkansas 72120 or World Christian Relief Fund; P.O. Box 970; McCrory, Arkansas 72101. Published in the Woodruff County Monitor on June 9, 2004. Posted by Gary Telford, Family Roots, Woodruff County Monitor

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN, HOUSE, PHILLIPS, RAY, COOPER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/282.380.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Judy, I probably expounded too much in my reply to you----rather than a McLAIN connection, I am more interested in the HOLLEMAN name that appears among those names in your earlier posting re the LONG family . . . My great-grandmother Parthenia ANDREWS/ANDERS HOUSE's marriage (sometime after 1860 to 1873) to Edward HOLLEMAN or HOLLOMAN in Monroe County produced a son Wm. Edward HOLLEMAN. It is possible a daughter Elizabeth b 1864 was born to HOLLEMAN rather than her previous husband George HOUSE. After HOLLEMAN died in 1873, Parthenia married Dillard L. COOPER in Monroe County. The son Wm. Edward HOLLEMAN or HOLMAN --(used both names, or Edward or W.E.) had a brother or maybe he was a son --Frank --and Wm. Edward married (maybe a 2nd marriage) to Rosa B. PHILLIPS from Texas (also called Rosie B.) and a brother of Rosie's named Joe PHILLIPS--who married and moved to Oklahoma where he was a policeman on the 1930 census. So I am interested in the HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN family of Wm. Edward HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN, wife Rosa "Rosie" B. PHILLIPS HOLMAN and their children---Frank (I think he was a son by a 1st marriage) born 1888; Agnes b 1891; Blanche 1897; Etta May 1902; Maggie B. 1905; Edward D. about 1910; Charlie A. 1914; Nellie M. 1918. I also have photos of Wm. Edward and Frank HOLMAN probably taken in 1910 to 1920 and of Wm. Edward's children Charley and Nellie taken about 1920. This family lived in 1900 and 1920 in Caney township in Woodruff County and in 1930 he and Rosa were in Brinkley, Monroe County, Arkannsas where Wm. Edward HOLMAN was a building contractor. In 1930, a grandson Thomas J. RAY age 9 (b 1920) lived in the HOLMAN household in Brinkley on White Oak Street. Will really appreciate any info on them and their descendants . . . thanks Audrey Williams Stanaland Loudon, TN

However, he is not the Samuel you are looking for. The Samuel who was the son of Levin of Gregory was a well known Methodist minister in Memphis. He married Mary Dupree. He was the son of Levin Watson and his first wife Susanna (probably Boggs.) In my research I have seen a Levin Watson from North Carolina. The Gregory Levin was from Accomac Co., VA, and married Elizabeth Patey in Snow Hill, MD. They did live in Hickman Co., TN, at one time. I believe you have attempted to connect with the wrong Levin Watson family.

    2. Wanda, Thanks again for the help. I don't think the Fergusons you found fit Sophronia or Anna Belle, However I will look at the A.B.Ferguson in Pulaski Co. Ella Easley Casey, a daughter of James Levin Easley, wrote the following in a letter to my grandmother in 1970: "Your grandmother Fannie McGlohn was my father's oldest sister, then there was a Mary Ann who was the next oldest and then my father.. then Uncle John ... Then Grandmother Easley died and a few years (later) Grandpa Easley married a milliner from Memphis and they had Aunt Etta and then uncle Tommy Easley. Your Grandmother Fannie was a schoolteacher and so Aunt Mary Ann. Aunt Mary Ann married a man by the name of King and they had a boy and a girl.." She never mentioned her grandfather by name and since I never found evidence of a second marriage for Thomas F. K. Easley, I wasn't sure he was the father of this family. I'm still looking for a second wife. Thanks again

Her sister Mary Ann later married some one named King and had a son named Willie. May Ann King died before 1880.
