Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/871 Message Board Post: Published in the Woodruff County Monitor, June 30, 2004 Mary Louise Bates Holder Mary Louise Bates Holder, lifelong resident of McCrory and the Woodruff County area, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004. She was 89 years of age and died one day before her 90th birthday following an extended illness. Services were held June 24 at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in McCrory with Rev. Glenn Hicks, pastor of the McCrory First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Fakes Chapel Cemetery. Thompson-Wilson Funeral Directors of McCrory and Wynne were in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Holder was born June 23, 1914 in Augusta, a daughter of the late John Benson and Mary Nelson Bates. She was a graduate of Augusta High School and was married December 31, 1932 to Robert Ray "Bob" Holder who preceded her in death in March of 1978. A very lovely and refined lady, "Mrs. Louise" was a part of Fakes Chapel First United Methodist Church. She served as adult Sunday school teacher and was a board member for many years. She was secretary and treasurer for the Fakes Chapel Cemetery until five years ago as well as the head of the McCrory Chapter of the American Cancer Society for several years and a member of Fakes Chapel Extension Homemakers Club. She loved to go any where at anytime. Her family stated she wanted her car kept full of gas and would ride as long as anyone would drive! One trip was said to have been around 400 miles, round trip, in search of one marble for her grandson's collection. Reading, sewing and crocheting were also among the thin! gs she enjoyed. Even though she was in braces, Mrs. Louise stayed more mentally and physically active than most people who had no handicap at all. McCrory has lost a great lady. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Benson and Mary Nelson Bates; husband, Robert Ray Holder; son, John Berry Holder and one great-granddaughter, Sheila Michelle. Survivors are her faithful care giver, friend and daughter-in-law, Annie Sue Roberts Holder Ridgeway and husband Phil of McCrory; one grandson, John Benson Holder and wife Paulette of McCrory; one great-granddaughter, Heather Holder of Pleasanton, California, and one great-great-granddaughter, Mary Katherine Clark. Casket bearers were John Benson Holder, Tony Bull, Billy Joe Bull, Bo Henderson, Walter Rushing and Eddie Rushing. Honorary casket bearers were John Jimerson, Tim Jimerson, Jim Darling, Joe Peebles, James McFarland, John O. Bates, Woody Reynolds, Greg Fetzer and Thomas Graham. The family requests memorials be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital, 800 Marshall, Little Rock, AR 72203. ***Note -- Annie Sue (Roberds) Holder Ridgeway's maiden name is not Roberts as listed in Mrs. Holder's obituary. It is (Roberds) as listed here. Gary Telford

The Tri-County Genealogical Society will meet Sunday, July 11 at 2 p.m. at the genealogy library in Marvell. Bobby Turner, incoming president, said, "To begin the new year, Tri-County is adding a new feature to its meetings. At business meetings when there is no formal program planned, a brief 'quick tip' or a 'genealogy hint' will be presented. These short genealogy hints and tips should be helpful to anyone doing research." The first of these 'quick tips' will feature WWII records and will be presented by Wanda Ridge. Members are urged to attend, and guests are welcome.
Does anyone on the list have a copy of the book, North Central Arkansas Death Record Index, 1941-1948 for Woodruff County? If so, would you kindly look up John D. GOODMAN for me? Thank you, Lola

Hi Ken, I am getting the emails with the Woodruff heading and more discussion than ever before. This is my first time to try replying to someone, so we shall see if mine is working. Also, thanks to Gloria for changing the default settings for the list. This is much better. Peggy

I might have found your Mary Emiline HOLLEMAN / DesCHAMPS, on the 1900 census----widowed, head of house . . . . see what you think. 1900 Sebastian County, Sugarloaf twp There is a Mary E. from MO, a Samuel S. 22 from AR, and a William W. 51 from SC---all heads of house in same location. Below is Mary E.'s--- I'll correspond directly with you and send the others info if you are interested. Sounds to me like they are related. I used Heritage Quest to search. 53, 54 Deschamps, Mary E. Head, W, F, Mar. 1858, 42 Wd, 10 children 8 survived, MO, TN, IN Louis H. son, Feb. 1883, 17, s, AR, SC, MO Minnie E. daughter, Dec. 1884, 15 s, AR, SC, MO John W. son, Feb. 1887, 13, ARk, SC, MO Annie M. daughter Feb. 1889, 11, s, AR, SC, MO Ada M. daughter Feb. 1892, 8 s, AR, SC, MO Jessie G (I think G) daughter, May 1894, 6, s, AR, SC, MO Audrey ----- Original Message ----- From: <DdHober@aol.com> To: <ARWOODRU-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 27, 2004 8:33 PM Subject: Re: [ARWOODRU] Holleman, Holman, Phillips--Woodruff Co. I haven't come across a Mary Emiline yet. Where was she born, married, etc. and do you know where she lived? If born in 1860, she's born in the same timeframe as Wm. Edward (1866 or 1867) and the siblings I found on the census. So far I have HOLLEMAN / HOLMAN, etc. definitely placed only in Arkansas from 1870 census to 1930 census, Monroe, Prairie and Woodruff. That is William Edward HOLMAN (as I mentioned) and a son from a first marriage Frank HOLMAN. With the line coming from VA or IL, depending on which census info is correct. However, it looks like Frank died in Hot Springs, ARK---if I have the correct SS death info. Here is additional info I just this evening found for Frank on the 1930 census---not far from his brother W.E.---- and also with a RAY in the household--a niece, whereas W.E. has RAY, the grandson. It is these RAY children that confirms I have the correct family--because the spelling of HOLMAN varies from census to census, person to person. Makes for challenging research. 1930 Census, Brinkley, Monroe, AR, New York, Ave. Carpenter, building (which fits with his brother W.Edward's buidling contractor occupation . . . . HOLMUN, Frank W. head, 42, 22 at marriage, AR,AR,AR (?) Clara B., wife, 26, 19 at marr. AR, IN, IN Blanchie M. daughter, 6, AR, etc. Bertha W. daughter, 5, AR Chester F. son, 3, AR etc. Frank M. son, 2, AR Fred M. son, 2AR RAY, Jeannie M. Niece, 13 , AR, MS, AR (Wm.E. had Thomas RAY grandson in his household , als AR, MS, AR) Please let me know what you find. Thanks.
