    1. Re: [ARWOODRU] Loose Probate Records
    2. Clara, I believe it was last October or November (2003) that I submitted the following information for Roddy probates in Woodruff County, Arkansas. The following sounds like it meets exactly what you may be looking for: "There has been some interest in the Roddy group and mention about the Roddy slaves. The LDS FHC microfilm 1021436 Q-Seaman Probate, Woodruff County Arkansas had some thorough probate records on several Roddy's such as, James M. Roddy (Drawer 6 folio 36) who died intestate ca 1862. Wm F. Davidge was administrator and the following heirs were listed: Thos. B. Robbins, Mary E. Robbins, Martha E. Davidge of Woodruff County, Martha E. McCorkle, Sarah E. [illegible], James A. Scott, E. Clementine Scott, Allen Scott, Thos. E. Scott, W.F. McCorkle, Margaret V. McCorkle of the State of Tennessee Gibson County. Also, the estate of Margaret Roddy who "departed life in Jackson County, about 10 June 1861...value of estate [approximately] $16,000. A.W. White administrator. She died intestate and the heirs were Jas. M. Roddy and Sarah F. Roddy of Jackson County. In an inventory taken in 1861 the following slaves were listed: 1 negro man Nelson 1 negro man Zeno (or Zerro] 1 negro boy Aleck 1 negro boy Sam 1 negro boy Alfred 1 negro man Titus 1 negro boy Jerry 1 negro boy John 1 negro girl Mary 1 negro girl Lucinda 1 negro girl Mariah 1 negro girl Nancy Also: the estate of Thomas A. Roddy, Jackson County, Augusta District, died ca 27 Feb 1867. Administrator was Thos. A. Roddy who was authorized to proceed to hire out said slaves for the June 1861 at private hiring.... These probates include original letters of debtors, inventory, affidavits, and newspaper notices of pending actions. This information may contain more details of the specific kind of information that has been asked for in some messages on this list. I only scanned the information the above abstracts are only a fraction of what is to be found on this microfilm. 3. Hi Clara, I don't have info on prabate records, but I do rem. seeing a Thomas/Edward but I thought they were with the white RODDY family, the same RODDY family Gary Telford mentioned. I've solved a puzzle about my Parthenia Dauze Golightly Cagle Perkins. She was born July 20, 1825 in Arkansas or Alabama. She died April 24, 1914 in Merryville, Beauregard Parish, La. She married Raleigh J. Cagle July 22, 1845 in Marshall Co., Ms. I found her marriage license in the Holly Springs, Ms. Courthouse. Raleigh J. Cagle was born March 24, 1824 in Henderson, Tn. He died Oct. 20, 1891 in Cagle Branch, Beauregard Parish, La. He was buried Oct. 23, 1891 in the Sugartown Baptist Church Cemetery. I've been there many times to his daughter's grave, my g grandmother, but his grave is unmarked. Raleigh and Parthenia's children were: Clara born 1849; Rebecca born April 10, 1851 w/o of Thomas Jeffers Iles,; Isaac Golightly Cagle born April 27, 1854 h/o Temperance Anne Cooley, ; Eason Marian Cagle born 1856; Laura born 1865; Judith Alice born Jan. 5, 1867 died Sept. 13, 1901 in Sugartown and is buried there with her father! ; and Lorenzo Dowell born Feb. 12, 1870 and died May 15, 1915. Judith Alice Cagle married Carroll Murdock Sanders in 1884 in Sugartown. Their children were: Avis Annette Sanders born Nov. 6, 1884 in Sugartown died Jan. 27, 1960 in New Gulf, Tx. buried in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Wharton, Tx. w/o of Wm. Burnham O'Quinn. Verda Sanders born Oct. 7, 1885 w/o of Judah "Bud" Malone, Carroll born in 1886 died in 1891; Walter born Oct. 19, 1887 h/o of Flossie Stewart; and Janie w/o of a Mr. Shaw. I just received records from Athen, Ala. Limestone Co., Ala. which are nearly illegible. If I'm correct (I'll spend more time with an optivisor examing them) James Golightly died in 1841; Parthenia D. is mentioned at an Orphan's Court. I don't see how James could have died later; Parthenia would have been about 16; the rcords in Woodruff identify her as Parthenia Cagle. There's a descrepancy somewhere. Let's try to solve it. June
