This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Powell, Lamey, Telford Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AW.2ADE/901 Message Board Post: Published in the Arkansas Central Leader, September 15, 1955 Mrs. Perry Lamey, Bride of Four Days, Killed in Accident Mrs. Perry Lamey, 19, a bride of four days, was killed instantly in a head-on collision of two cars two miles east of Harrisburg on Highway 14 Friday Night. Also injured in the collision were Mr. Lamey, who received serious head and back injuries, and their niece, Beckie Griffin, 3 1/2, who also received serious head injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Lamey had spent a few days in Hot Springs on their honeymoon and had stopped at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lamey in Pumpkin Bend. They were to drive their niece to her home in Steele, Mo., before returning to Indianapolis, Ind., where they were to make their home. Officers said that the Lamey car topped a hill travelling east toward Marked Tree and came upon a tractor driven by Archie Smith of Harrisburg. In an effort to avoid ramming the tractor, Lamey swerved the car and collided with a car driven by Charles J. Chapman of Harrisburg and occupied by Lloyd Hogue, also of Harrisburg. They were treated for minor injuries. Mrs. Lamey, the former Miss Ethel Marie Powell of Blytheville, was buried in Blytheville Sunday. Notes by Gary Telford: Found the above article in the Arkansas Central Leader, on September 8, 2004. Ethel Marie "Pooch" Powell was born April 9, 1936, one of six children born to James Leonard Powell (1899-1952) and Pearl Ethel (Carnell) Powell (1901-1981). Both parents were born in Union County, Mississippi. James Leonard Powell was a brother to my mother, Minnie Modell (Powell) Telford (1902-1975) who married Jim Duff Telford (1888-1961). Both were born in Union County, Mississippi and are buried in the Macedonia Cemetery, Union Co., MS. Perry Lamey was one of eight known children born to Willie Edward Lamey (1902-1962) and Johnnie Elizabeth Lamey (1901-1981). Both parents lived in the Pumpkin Bend Community and are buried in the Pumpkin Bend Cemetery, Woodruff County, Arkansas.

I have a lot of information on the Taylor Family of Pumpkin Bend but not much on the Rutherford Family. I would like to publish an article on them but I just don't have enough information on the Rutherford Family. If you would like to provide any information on them, I would appreciate it. Some of my Family Stories are on the Woodruff Co., AR webb-site under Gary Telford, with more being posted as the webb master has time. One of the stories is on the Matlock-Fowler Family Hiistory and has some of the Taylor"s mentioned in it. Let me know about the information on the Rutherford's.
