    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Phillips, Cherry, Holleman, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AW.2ADE/964.1 Message Board Post: Not sure I can help . . . but I do have PHILLIPS in my line and the name Fannie CHERRY PHILLIPS---but I do not think my Fannie PHILLIPS is the same person you mention. Also, I have never heard the name Robert PHILLIPS, and not heard the REAVES surname. However, maybe you will find something here to help. In some Woodruff County Probate Records (compiled by a Marion Stark Craig, MD and edited by Desmond Walls Allen) there is an 1899 probate record for the death of S.L. PHILLIPS that shows F.M. WARD was made guardian of Betty and Joe PHILLIPS. Wm. Edward HOLMAN, my relative, married in 1900 to the girl Betty (named Rosa Bettie) and at that time my William Edward HOLMAN was made guardian of Joseph PHILLIPS, a minor. Rosie Bettie and Joe Phillips were both born in Texas. Rosa Bettie PHILLIPS and Wm. Edward HOLMAN married in 1900 and the HOLMAN household is on the 1900 census with young Joe living with them. 1900 Census, Woodruff County, Caney township, Arkansas, Series: H. Quest, T623 Roll: 80 Page: 6. Joe PHILLIPS, living in Woodruff County ARK , married about 1910 to Fannie CHERRY who was born about 1890 in Kentucky. On the 1920 census, Joe and Fannie Phillips were living in Caney, Woodruff, Arkansas, and on the 1930 census, they had moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Joe was a policeman and Fannie Cherry Phillips mother and a sister were living with the family. Also from the Woodruff County Loose Probate records I mentioned is another record: " On 26 Jan. 1875, William R. REDDIN appointed guardian of some PHILLIPS children named John Allen, James S. and Eliza Jane PHILLIPS, minors. They had money coming to them from the estate of their mother, Mrs. Caroline LEWIS deceased. Their father was also dead." Sounds like the mother, Mrs. Caroline LEWIS had previously been married to a PHILLIPS.

It is one of the best sources available to genealogist. For the last two years, I have employed a lady to search through all the old newspapers of Woodruff Co., AR, in our warehouse to find and copy obituaries. Some old obituaries from the Woodruff County newspapers are now available, starting in 1930 (none for 1931) to 2004. In an effort to recover some of my expense, I am now making these available to the public at a cost of $10.00 each which includes mailing. When ordering make sure you list the first and last name at time of death, the month and year of death, also the spouse if known as some obits will be listed as Mrs. John D. Doe, etc. I will see if I have the ones you are looking for and will contact you back with the ones found and the total cost. You can then send a money order for the total to: Gary Telford Family Roots P. O. Box 282 Bald Knob, AR 72010 wgt@centurytel.net
