Try using an internet search engine as well to find other historical socieities. Rootsweb has many of them listed in each state section. I'm beginning research into the "places" that my family lived, and I'm wondering if the historical books that the society offers will help in this endeavor. I am only researching the time period of 1876 - 1907. My ancestor, William Manning was a State Representative in 1888 from St. Francis County. The various census (and probate info) have the family in the counties of Monroe, Woodruff and St. Francis. With everything being so close, and he dieing in Hunter, I feel it wise to research all these areas. Please advise what the cost of membership is, what I would be getting with that membership and what value the books would be. Thank you! Lori The Manning's of Arkansas

I think that might be too early for a birth certificate, although they may have a few that early. You might call the Arkansas Dept of Vital Records and ask - here's some links to check out: http://www.healthyarkansas.com/certificates/certificates.html#Birth http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/howto/w2w/arkansas.htm http://www.vitalrec.com/ar.html Hope this helps!
