Tennessee), taked a boat down to the White River, and then came up the White River. This was passed down by oral tradition. Thought that was interesting.

I've looked at maps of the main westward migration routes and they all seem to run more east-west, rather than southwest. They also seem to lie farther to the north than Cotton Plant. Did people from S IL come down the Mississippi to a certain point, then come west overland? Or did they cross the Mississippi at St Louis and come south overland? A map would be great! Thanks!
I was born in Gregory, AR which is 19 miles northwest of Cotton Plant. I knew Buford and Jesse Boaz. Jesse married my aunt R Pat Pope about 1946. They moved to Chicago where my aunt Pat died a couple of years ago. Uncle Jesse passed on last year. I believe Sherman is the only sibling that is still alive. I saw him at my aunt's funeral. I met Erie Mae Boaz a couple of times while visiting my aunt and uncle. They have a daughter Jan, I believe she lives in Michigan. Buford have several children. I believe he has a daughter in Little Rock, AR. He has another daughter, Ethel that lives in Chicago. She took care of Uncle Jesse after my aunt died. I did have Ethel's address and phone number. I probably still do but I will have to look it up in an old address book. I do not know of any Boaz relatives that live in Cotton Plant at the present time. How did you come about my email address? I have received messages from people seeking information about their ancestors but this is the first time I am actually known them. If I can be of any help please let me know. I will contact my sisters in Chicago to see if I can come up with a phone number and call Ethel to let her know of your inquiry. They were travelling from IL or TN to join up with McGhee/McGee family who were already in AR. James W had married Lucinda Smith (b 1846 in Posey co IN, but moved to IL) in Franklin Co IL June 4, 1863. They had two sons -- William Monroe and James Marion. Lucinda got sick with "the fever" when they arrived in Cotton Plant in Sept 1866, and died in Nov 1866. James W (and sisters?) were in Cotton Plant until at least Feb 1867. Somehow the boys were returned to Lucinda's parents in Franklin Co IL (I believe Mary took them.) The boys were raised by Lucinda's family in IL and IN. One story is that James W died, another story is that he remarried. I am looking for ANY clue as to who James W's parents/family were. The family also has some connection to the Smith/Sumner Co TN area. When William Monroe was a young man, he inherited a part-interest in some land from a William Owens. Does ANYBODY know ANYTHING about McGee/McGhees in or near Cotton Plant in this timeframe? Thank you!

For those concerned about the cemetery preservation bill in the Arkansas Legislature - Here's the latest report on the Cemetery Bill to help protect our pioneer cemeteries. This is so important. And for some strange reason, the Farm Bureau is opposing it. Our cemeteries are so neglected, and there's very little done to preserve them, so it needs lots of support and help. If possible, please contact the senators listed at the bottom of this email in support of cemetery preservation. If you're a member of the Farm Bureau (as I am), please consider contacting them and urge them to support the bill. I don't know, it seems like Farm Bureau opposes every bill that they didn't originate, it's beyond my understanding. I've written them before, and intend to do it again.
