My great-grandfather James was born in about 1876, apparently in Royal Township, White County, Arkansas. Assuming I have the right James Edwards (and I think I do), the 1880 White County census suggests he had a brother Joe (two years or so older), that his mother was Locky (?) (Massey) Edwards, that his father was probably dead by this time (doesn't appear in this census but shown via his sons as having been born in TN), and the mother and two children were living with her father. That's as far back as I've been able to go at this point, and I wish I were a little more certain of the information I have (I'm sure you've recognized how people's ages seem to vary by a year or two, depending on which document you're looking at).
