I sent it on to my cousin who is the authority on the Pearce family. He is searching for information or possible leads on Mary Green Pruitt/Prewitt Pearce, the wife of J. D. Pearce. Notice the difference in the spelling. Have you seen that before on your bunch? Mary had a sister, Sally, who married a Francis Temple of Louisiana and ended up in Mulberry, Arkansas.

Pruitt was born on Jan.31,1875 in Banks County,GA. This comes from the 1880 Banks County,GA . Washington District 284th Georgia Milita, E D 1, sheet 48,pg.311 family#449. listed as Afred R Pruett(head of family and George's father). This census would have to be looked up on ancestry.com., HeritageQuest does not have the 1880 census. Also George Pruitt's father is listed in the different census years as Alford K Pruitt, Alfred R Pruett and Albert K. Pruitt. He is listed as Albert Pruitt on the 1900 White County,Marion Township Census with George W. Pruitt in the family. George gets married in 1901. Albert Pruitt's father is Emerson Pruitt, born abt 1823 in Elbert County,GA and his wiee is Lydia E. Murray, born Nov. 12,1834 in GA. Albert Pruitt or Alford Pruitt was born on June 30,1854 in Banks County,GA. If Mary Green Pruitt is related it could be one of Emmerson Pruitt's sibblings, but i do not have that information. I got my information on Albert Pruitt and his parents and sibblings from a rootsweb familytree page by Gary Treat. The information is documented and the dates and names match the census information of 1900 and 1910, I have not check the banks county,GA census because i do not have access to ancestry.com. I can not find George Pruitt and Ida Mae Holden on the 1920 White County,AR census and I have check with someone who has ancestry.com and they can not find them either. If anyone comes accross George W.Pruitt and Ida Mae on the 1920 census send me a e-mail. Dear List Members, I am going to be involved in list housekeeping on this list during the next 24 hours....I would appreciate help from you. I need activity on the list to obtain bouncing e-mail address.... You DO NOT NEED to do anything to stay subscribed, NOR do you have to post to the list to stay subscribed. If I have a problem with your e-mail address I will contact you personally. Take this opportunity to post your missing White County ancestors and at the same time help me by causing non-working subscribed addresses to bounce. Please CHANGE the SUBJECT LINE to match your posting. HOUSEKEEPING DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN THE SUBJECT LINE. If you get unsubscribed my mistake during this housekeeping, just e-mail me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and let me know what address was mistakenly unusbscribed. Mark, I did a quick check on the 1920 also and did not find them. Didn't have time to do a thorough check. I did find them on the 1930 census, however, and if you need that information, let me know and I'll send that. My recollections of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church building: As I recall from my parents, who were members of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in the 20s, 30s, and 40s, the building that stood until the present building was constructed (probably in the 80s) was built from lumber salvaged from an earlier church building. I do not know the date. [When I think of attending church in that building (1940s-1980s) over the years, my first thoughts are of the benches. So the following thoughts are in no way critical of anyone, but my recollections and observations as a child and youth.] I suspect the benches were from the pre-1900 bldg. There were benches of several "styles", some had one flat board for the seat and a single board for the back and others had slats on both the seat and back. Those slats were very smooth from years of wear. A couple of the slatted benches had slats so far apart that I recall my fear of falling through as a child! It would appear that 4 or 5 men in the early congregation volunteered to make 2-4 benches each and did not have a pattern from which to build nor did they confer with the others as to how the benches would be built. They just built benches and then brought them all together for the first building. As a very young child during church services there I recall hearing the northbound M&NA trains blowing their whistles as they approached the crossing on the north side of the creek. The Mt. Pisgah Cemetery is across the road from the Baptist Church and just north of the Methodist Church. Does anyone know the date of the oldest marked grave there? The bare area along the ridge through the middle of the cemetery is filled with unmarked graves, many of which may pre-date the oldest graves with stones. My father, who helped dig many graves there, related to me of several attempts at digging graves in that area where there are no stones. Wendell
