    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MASSEY, HUGHES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wV.2ADI/1540 Message Board Post: I am researching my White Co. family history and run into a big mystery. I find my great grand father, John Anderson MASSEY living in the house just south of my grandmother's house at 500 S Spring Street in the 1920 census. His wife is also listed. They owned and operated the boarding house at that location. In the 1930 census of White County, I find him listed in the house with my grandparents, Arnold and Ilar HUGHES at 500 S. Spring Street, Searcy. No mention is made of his wife, so I assume she died between 1920 and 1930. He is listed as "father-in-law" on the census record. So far, so good. Now here is where it takes a strange turn, I checked the Arkansas Death Record Index trying to determine a date of death for John Anderson MASSEY and find he died in White County on 08 AUG 1927. Obviously he could not have died in 1927 and be listed on the 1930 census. Were there 2 John A MASSEY's in White Co during this time period? Could the Death Record Index contain an error? I have checked the White Co cemetery listing and could not find his name. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to check my web site for any additional information on this family. http://bellsouthpwp.net/b/v/bvh

My mother-n-law who is now 90 had grandparents by the last name of Smith. They lived around out north of Searcy somewhere. My mother-in-law knows little about them. Her mother--Addie Smith Graham (which was short for Adeline)-- died when she was a child of about four years in the 1918 flu epedemic. If you wish to contact her and ask, she will gladly tell you all that she knows. She even has a picture of the Smiths and he was an elderly man with a flowing beard if I remember correctly. She can tell you grandpa's name I think and just a little bit. Just write me at MissLata@aol.com if you wish the information on how to contact her. Also, have you thought of contacting the White County Historical Society? They are good folks. Eddie Best is hooked up with them and this is his e-mail: ebest@ipa.net He is at Searcy and I would believe he can tell you someone who is doing some sort of research around Bald Knob. I would alert you about being careful on who you deal with. I know a nice honest lady who does research here in Lonoke County where I live for a donation to our local museum building fund. She has helped me a lot. Hope some of this helps. Linda Temple Acrey Lonoke, Arkansas
