I am trying to find the surname of Esau Hartsell's first wife Elizabeth. I located Esau Hartsell in Cocke County, Tennessee in 1850: Family no. 360-- Esau Hartsell 30 male TN farmer Elizabeth 23 female TN Morris 4 male TN Isaphine 1 female TN Esau Hartsell was in Jackson Township, White County, Arkansas in 1860 and 1870. Both census records can be found on the White County, Arkansas Genealogy main page. The children's names varied somewhat. I decided that their children were: Morris 1846 Isaphine Susan 1849 Lawson 1852 Mary Mavis 1854 Sarah Martha 1856 Nancy 1859 James 1859
I graduated from Rose Bud High School in 1949. Peggy Manning was a member of that class. She was from the Romance-Floyd area. She only went to Rose Bud for the last two years. The Floyd School district consolidated with Rose Bud and Beebe in 1947--with the Northern part of the district going to Rose Bud and the Southern part going to Beebe. I have lost contact with Peggy but the last I heard she was living in California. I could probably find someone in the Rose Bud area who might have an address for her if you think this might help. Milton Davis May I now live in the St. Louis, MO area.

According to family and census records my bunch moved to White Co. from Pike Co. Ms around 1914. I did wonder if they chose that area because of relatives living there, but have no data to support that fact. William Manning was originally from Tn. Thanks for your interest and I hope you have better luck with your Mannings than I have had with mine.

Nancy, Does L.M. (or L.R) KING connect with your research? He married Charlotte C. VICK. Perhaps he was in the military, because the "Arkansas Democrat"; (Little Rock; 28 May 1957); p. 8 says she lived in Frankfurt, Germany. I will include the text of the article in case in provides some useful information. "Arkansas Democrat"; (Little Rock; 28 May 1957); p. 8 says "Retired Minister Dies in Arkadelphia Arkadelphia - The Rev. S. C. Vicks (sic), 77, retired Baptist minister, died here early today. But, I have not tied my Margaret in with them either. Esau's wife was Elizabeth& they were in White Co. in 1870, Jackson Twp. Maybe between the both of us, we can figure this out. You are lucky to live close. I live in Jefferson Co., so it is not easy to do research. No courthouse records. There is probate records on Esau on 11 Jan 1886 and Esau married a Mrs. Eliza Jones on 26 Mar 1882, so the 1st Eliza died before then. Esau is buried at the Philadelphia Cem. in Sunnydale, Ark. with some of his sons.

Kathleen: Thanks. One more question: What is a tagline? I get the digest version of the newsletter, so I delete everything except the message to which I am responding, otherwise the entire days mail would be returned. Is that what this is getting at? Or is it the "ARWHITE-D Digest V01 #___" which automatically appears in on the subject line, if I don't replace it? Or something else? Thanks for your patience. Kathleen: I am one of the fairly new list members. Not new to computers, just to mailing lists. This is the first I have heard about "our list rules". How does one find out what they are for this and other lists? Jenni, we have very few rules...what ones we do have are in the tagline about every 4th message and it reads, " NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact Kathleen Burnett [email protected]" Those are the only rules. We like to encourage other items, but they are not rules. Like placing in the subject line what your message is about. Deleting old tag lines when you post knowing that as soon as you post to the list another tagline will attach itself and that is about it. :) Kathleen Jenni Ford wrote: > Kathleen: > > I am one of the fairly new list members.
