Deborah: Apparently White County clerk will not make copies from old books (too fragile I am sure). Since mine is from 1890's they would only provide an abstract. However, AHC has microfilm of these books and my (new) theory is that if I give them the book and page # and the film # they will make a copy from the microfilm (ie. they just won't do the lookup). I am proceeding on that theory. Hopefully it works, if not the worst that can happen is that they say "no". Thank you for taking the time to respond. Jenni Falls Church, VA
Jenni, I live in Little Rock, AR. and just a few minutes away from the AHC. If you can get me the numbers. I would be glad to find the info for you and make copies. Jenni You can order the copy from White County in Searcy. I have done so and rec'd them back very quickly. They have the actual books there. I have also visited the courthouse there and the young woman working there was very cooperative. Would be worth a try. Cost was very minimal. Deborah Magnolia TX

Martha, Our family has a loved one buried in the pauper cemetery in White County, Arkansas. I don't know how widely known it is, but I've been told that you might now recognize this old cemetery only as the White County Fairgrounds parking lot. His death certificate states "Unknown" on almost every information entry by the Coroner. It said, though that he was buried at "County Farm" which probably is the poor farm. I was told it was where the White Co. Fairgrounds are now located. He may have been a ne'er-do-well, but I'd still like to find some info on his life. > Thanks for any information! > > Martha Poplin > > ==== ARWHITE Mailing List ==== > NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political > announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, > etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. > Consideration for exceptions, contact Kathleen Burnett [email protected] > To learn more about my world visit http://dwp.bigplanet.com/kburnett > Arkansas Cemeteries Volunteer Website http://www.rootsweb.com/~arcemete/arcem.htm > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
Help! I have just received an abstract of a marriage record and would like to get an actual copy. I have the Marriage Volume and Page Number and I know that the Arkansas History Commission has this volume on film. I have found two references on White County website that say: "If you are unable to visit the Arkansas History Commission, it is possible to order photocopies of marriage or other records if that record is on the AHC microfilm." and then lists costs. However, when I go to the AHC website, it says numerous times that the "staff does not undertake research requests." Is there anyone familiar with AHC? Will they send a copy if I provide film #, book and page # (and money and SASE)? Or am I misreading what the White County website is saying? Any guidance would be appreciated. Jenni Ford

Hi Wendy, Thanks much for all the info on the Armstrongs. All of them that you listed are related to my grandparents, Albert Kelly and Bellzoriah Ann Armstrong. It's sad that we know so little about either Albert or Bellzoriah. Thanks again. Louis K. Lyttle
