Does anyone in White County know of the following families? All are deceased in 1970's-1980's, however, they had many children some of whom still live in the area. Can you help? Elmer and Ellie Warden, some of their children were Ruby and Don Warden. Mach and Nell Evans, 2 daughters Willa Dean and Patty. Mary Ann Ralston

My wife's father says that his father, Joseph Green MARCRUM passed away in Bald Knob, White County, Arkansas. At first he though it was in 1947, but now he believes it was even later, perhaps as late as 1950. We know that his death isn't listed in the AR death index up to 1948, but we do know that he died prior to 1951. His widow, Arilla (Stephens) Marcrum was in CA during 1950. Does anyone have access to an index of Arkansas death for the years 1948 to 1950, and would be willing to look it up for me. I would greatly appreciate it. Mike Milligan

Dear List Members, The First Quarterly Report for 2002 is going to be just a little different than the one I usually send to the Mailing Lists I take care of. I tore my Rotator Cuff in November of last year and I find that I cannot spend long hours typing on the computer during the healing process, therefore I am going to send out one message to all of my lists and skip posting the membership numbers this time. I promise to get back to our normal reporting next quarter. Typing over 200 messages is just more than this shoulder and arm can take. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. [email protected] 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at [email protected] I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. Passing this on from another list. I thought it would be of interest to others. ===================================================================== BLM SITE IS BACK ONLINE ===================================================================== The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), General Land Office (GLO) Records Automation Web site is back up and running after a court order shut down Department of Interior sites back in early December. The site contains two million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908 (with images of the patents available). Additional records issued between 1908 and the mid-1960s are also being added. Information contained in these records can be used to order more extensive records from the National Archives. The BLM site is online at: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ ===================================================================== SHARE YOUR FAMILY'S IMMIGRATION STORY ON TELEVISION! ===================================================================== "They Came to America" is a new PBS show that will celebrate the unique spirit of the diverse groups of people who have come to America over the past one-hundred-and-fifty years. Perhaps they came to escape poverty, religious persecution, or military service - or to follow their dreams for individual opportunity, prosperity, and adventure. Whatever the motivation, we'd like to hear about your family's immigration experience. The following will give you an idea of the kinds of stories we hope to find and share: TIMEFRAME: Immigrants arriving from 1850 to today PLACE OF ENTRY: Immigrants through all ports and borders: --- Emphasis on Ellis Island and Angel Island, but including all Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf Coast and Great Lakes ports (e.g., Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, Galveston, New Orleans, etc.) --- Mexican or Canadian border entries (legal or otherwise) --- More recent arrivals by air ETHNICITY: Immigrants from all parts of the world including Asian, European, African, Latin American, etc. MOTIVATION FOR COMING TO AMERICA: --- Better known reasons such as avoiding religious or political persecution, seeking a better life for one's children, getting a job or education, etc. --- Colorful reasons such as dodging the draft, avoiding an undesirable arranged marriage, being at war or early "mail order" bride (i.e., "I've got a sister back in the old country who would be perfect for you!" situations), being "booted out" by an existing regime for political activities, alleged crimes, etc. DRAMATIC STORIES WITH EMOTIONAL IMPACT stemming from happenings or circumstances related to the actual immigration event: --- Major life events such as birth, marriage, or death (e.g., gave birth at sea, married someone he/she met at Ellis Island, died in quarantine, etc.) --- Powerful emotions such as love, fear, anticipation, resentment, etc. --- Universal and inspirational themes such as separation, reunion, hope, adventure, etc. STORIES THAT CAN BE TOLD ON TELEVISION: --- About people who are still alive or descendants who can tell the stories on camera. --- With supporting visuals (e.g., photos, documents, moving footage, present-day places that can be filmed, people to interview, etc.) and/or candidates for dramatic re-enactment --- Can be factually verified If you'd like to submit your family's story for consideration, please complete the form at http://honoringourancestors.com/share.html NO LATER THAN 17 APRIL. Alternatively, you can summarize all the preceding points in an e-mail to mailto:[email protected] or print out the form from the Web site and fax it to: 703-242-0685. Unfortunately, due to the anticipated volume of responses, we won't be able to reply to each submission individually, but those selected as candidates can expect to be contacted in about one month's time. ===================================================================== ANCESTRY QUICK TIP ===================================================================== When a loved one dies in an area other than the one that he was born in, be sure to have his obituary printed in the newspaper of the town of his birth. My cousin died in south Florida at the beginning of this month. The local newspaper wanted an astronomical amount of money to print even a basic obituary; money that the family did not have to spare. Being a genealogist, I know how important a published obituary can be for future generations; plus I just believe that everyone deserves that last hurrah. My first step was to have the obituary published in my hometown's newspaper in West Virginia; we're a very small community and they will print them for free. I then called the Brockton Enterprise in Brockton, Mass., which is where my cousin was born, and found that they also printed obits for free. Naturally, I sent one out. One of my cousin's survivors was a daughter that we didn't know the whereabouts of. After this obit was printed in the Brockton Enterprise, my cousin's widow received a phone call from that lost daughter, who had been living in Brockton all along. And another cousin found their way through cyber-space to us as a result of reading the obituary. More than likely, had we been able to print the obit in the Florida paper, we would have never considered printing in the Brockton paper, as my cousin had not lived there for several decades. I will certainly do the same for any other family members that pass away from now on; and bless those newspapers who still provide this service free!!!

If Lockie were America's sister, she might have kept in contact with the Sappington's. England had the good fortune of having a special government project in an area just west of town called the Farm Security Administration in which the government tried to address the impact the depression was having on agriculture. The FSA built special houses, shools, and provided agricultural assistance. A lot of folks, including mine flocked to the area to try to get in on the program and survive. Just a follow-up thought I thought I'd share.

Yes, this is the same man, I have a photo of him and his first wife Mary Jane Owens. Zachariah "Zachary" was born 6/28/1846 in Haywood County, TN (although his census records all show he was born in Arkansas, so not sure on the birthplace) Zach died in Wapanucka, Johnston County, OK on November 21, 1915 and I have a picture of his headstone. They wed in April 13, 1866 in White County, Arkansas. Their children were: 1. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Watson (my 2nd great grandmother) she married Charles "Charley" Alexander Valentine and I have less information on my direct line than I do on the others, lol. They moved to OK and died in utter poverty. Two of their youngest children went to an orphanage after their deaths. 2. America Watson b. 1869, have no further information on her and will check out Sappington now that you have given me a new lead, THANKS SO MUCH 3. Jeanetta "Nettie" Watson, b. 1870, not sure what happened to her either. 4. Martha buried in Floyd and you have that information 5. Victory - same 6. John W. - same 7. Dora Eva "Effie" Watson b. June 26, 1879 in Floyd, White County, Arkansas; d. February 02, 1920 in Ashdown, Little River, Arkansas but is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Wapanucka. I have her obituary and she still has 3 children living. She married Joseph Edward "Ed" Walkup. 8. Emmitt (variations) Charles Watson, b. July 05, 1880 in White County, Arkansas; d. March 24, 1963 in Atoka, Oklahoma buried in Coleman Cemetery, Wapanucka, Oklahoma. He married Hattie Dudley and I have photos of them as well. 9. Lockie Watson b. November 16, 1881 in Searcy, White County, Arkansas; August 27, 1971 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas buried on August 30, 1971 in Edgewood Cemetery, North Little Rock, Arkansas. I have her obituary as well. She married Riley or Raleigh Harper. (She was born in between census records and never heard of her until an elderly, now deceased family member knew of her well, since then another "cousin" had come forth and knew her also, said she was a lovely woman that had the prettiest blue eyes) 10. Boss Watson (one family says his name is Boston but I have no records to prove that); b. November 21, 1885 in Floyd, White, Arkansas; d. July 15, 1973 in Durant, Oklahoma. He never married, he was a short man and I have a photo of him as well. (This is the name on which I started my research; my grandfather's cousin remembers going to see him often at a nursing home) 11. Bruce Watson, b. August 1887 per census records. He is believed to have moved to Texas but have not researched this further yet. Mary Jane died on July 31, 1894 and is buried in Floyd Cemetery and on November 10th of 1894, Zach married Sallie (Sarah) Margaret Walkup. Zach is the son of Caleb (Calub) Watson and Ann Unknown. He is the twin of Henry Clay Watson. Zach "lied" about his age when he married Sallie and so the wrong birthdate is recorded on his headstone - could be that he just couldn't remember. Sallie and Zach had 4 children the two youngest were twins also. I have attached some photographs. Watson5.jpg is Zach, Owen.jpg is Mary Jane, ZachWatson2 is Zach's headstone, Mary3 is a picture of Mary Jane's headstone and martha2.jpg is their child 1872-1878.
