Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wV.2ADI/1488 Message Board Post: I would be so grateful if anyone of you is familiar with the Edward A. Smith (45, born in VA - Grocer) family I found on the 1880 Searcy, White County AR Census. He was the Security person on the Marriage Certificate of ROBERT M. JUNYOR and BEULAH IRENE (MacAllister) BUTLER on July 5, 1909, both from West Point, White County, AR. Beulah had brought a three year old daughter, Minnie Smith, into that marriage with Robert Junyor. The 1880 White Co AR Census listed Edward A. Smith's wife as Alberta (36, born in MS), Dau Ida Smith (10, born in MS) and a Nephew, Benjamin Pullen (20, born in VA). On the 1900 White Co Census, he is 62, Widow, Merchant. Thank you so much for your response. Evelyn enichols@tds.net

I have a suggestion on someone for you to contact. It is my mother-in-law, Celia Acrey and she is 90 years old. A "Mrs. Poe" was her step-mother. The step-mother had a son named Cap Poe who was not only a good friend but married Mrs. Acrey's neice by marriage, a Bell, who was the child of Sam and Mae Acrey Bell. Some of Cap's kids are scattered outside of Searcy. You may wish to give Mrs. Acrey a call, then reply to this and give a valid e-mail. I tried to send this directly to you as you had given an e-mail, but it bounced back. She is very alert in the mornings usually and pretty much on top of things. I will be surprised if she is unable to help you some. If she ever knew them, she still remembers them or their kin. If you want some real research done I can suggest someone. I would suggest you contact Sherryl Miller at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Arkansas 72086. Or you can phone her at 501-676-2496. She does research for people all the time from all over the United States. She will expect a donation to the museum building fund for her efforts as she will go to the History Commission in Little Rock and search. Sherryl will tell you where she looked as well as add your name to a running record she keeps of people who are searching for certain families. Sherryl is highly respected in this area of central Arkansas having written at least three books. She has found things for me that there was no way I could have possibly known where to find the item. Unless you can find a relative or someone who really knows what they are talking about, she is probably your best bet. Good luck! Linda T. Acrey Lonoke, Arkansas 25 miles east of Little Rock and about 25 miles south of Beebe in White County

Bowermaster who was married to Mary Scotia Welsh ~1888. They are in Hamilton, White Co., Arkansas in 1910 with three daughters Maud, Mable, and Ola, and with Mary's mother Rose Welsh. Edward was born in IL about 1867, his father born in Ohio, and his mother in IL. I believe he is the son of Ben Bowermaster who was in Jefferson Co., IL, in 1880---in that census, Edward C. was listed as Charles age 13, and the father Ben was listed as born in Ohio and mother Clara listed as born in IL. I have researched the family of Rose [Wesson] Welsh [and therefore Mary Scotia Welsh Bowermaster] extensively as she is the sister of my third greatgrandfather. I am unable to find out where these folks were in 1920 or 1900. CORRECTIONS: The family was in the Harrison township of White Co. in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses. Now looking for marriages of daughters Maud, Mable and Ola Bowermaster in the 1911 to 1929 time period. Any help appreciated! Since I am in NC, would be interested in knowing if there are any published marriage records from White Co. Thank you! Lynn Wesson Chapel Hill, NC

You may need to check and see when the county lines shifted. I know that in Lonoke County where I live which is just south of White, the county lines shifted three times. When my own kin came from Shelby County, Tennessee immediately after the Civil War in 1869, it was to Prairie County. The county line shifted and they were in Pulaski. Then the line shifted again in 1873 and the family then lived in Lonoke County. Now the catch to this is, they never moved not one time, but the lines shifted. I took time to share the story only because it should give you the idea about what may have happened to the family. If you need a research lady here in Arkansas, I can suggest one. Good luck!!
