Another possibility, on the 1830 Cocke Co.TN census, p. 243 Job, Winney 0-0 Williams, John 0-0 Epps, George 0-0 Lucas, Seliah 0-0 0-0 means non-white, could be free blacks, Indians, mixed bloods or Melungeons

She attended New Bethel General Baptist Church and was an avid reader, loved solving crossword puzzles and was an accomplished crochet artist. She is survived by one sister, Marie Chambliss of Newport and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her smiling face. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Crockett and Virda Alma Frank Sammons, her son, Paul Edward Watson and three sisters; Thelma Lewis, Eva Mae Staggs and Rowena Armilda Cole and one brother, Myrl St. Patrick Sammons. He was born in White County, Arkansas on 20 June, 1896. He married Mable Gertrude Kirk (daughter of William Buchanon Kirk and Gertrude Harrell) in about 1916 in White County, Arkansas. In 1920, he was living with wife and kids in Antioch, Arkansas. He then moved to Washington State, then Oregon, and finally settled in Payette, Idaho in 1940. He and Mable had four children: Clifford, Willie Lee, Kenneth, and Teddy. When he died in 1960, his obituary stated that he had three brothers and one sister still living. Does anyone out there know who Burnie's parents are, or who his siblings were? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.

A younger woman, Georgia Barrentine, maintained contact with the Smith family into the 1930s.
