Mr. Stapleton had worked as a bricklayer for more than 50 years. He had served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Marthasville; Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 in St. Louis and Elks Club 2662 in Warrenton. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Martin Funeral Home, 510 East Main Street, Warrenton. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Holstein. Among the survivors are four daughters, Kathleen Hicks of Rolla, Mo., and Margaret Dreyer, Toni Garcia and Tina Turner, all of Warrenton; three sons, John Stapleton Jr. of Fayetteville, Ark., Robert Stapleton of Griffin, Ga., and Pete Stapleton of Warrenton; a sister, Margaret Mueller of St. Louis; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
