    2. Sorry to disagree, but I enjoyed Robert's historical tidbit. He's contributed much useful information faithfully to this list over the years I have been on it. This historical tidbit is a back-up to something I've said many times here, just in example form. When doing genealogy and family history, it's important sometimes to step back and ask what assumptions are being made about events, people, motivations by the researcher. Even more importantly, by any sources being used that are written accounts by other people, rather than primary source documents. I'm a full-time historian working on a long-term project that involves examining earlier accounts and picking them apart, looking for errors and assumptions that were never questioned. My tie to WA County is research into the Tennant family of Dutch Mills/Cane Hill. One assumption made in previous accounts of the Reverend Thomas H. Tennant, and endlessly repeated, was that he died at 114. Research by list member Bob Keen and I has shown that the Rev. Tennant himself never claimed a birthdate that would give that age at death. In record after record, his birthdate given would result in the age at death of 94. An example of historical assumptions that what has been printed must be true. Thanks Robert for a timely reminder of this important element of family research! Candace Wellman Bellingham, Washington
