    3. My ggg grandfather, who was in the 1840 census in Vineyard County, would show up as being from Kentucky. Actually, he was born there before it was a state. However, he was married in Indiana, was in the 1830 census in Saline County, MO, went to Greene County, MO, probably before it was a county. He shows up there in 1833, just after it became a county. In 1850, he was in Dade County, MO. He died in 1860. He is in the mortality index for Scott County, AR, for 1860. All census records show his birth state as Kentucky, which is correct. But he really spent most of his life in Missouri and Arkansas. So look in other states. Particularly Missouri. You never know. These guys were pioneers, and they traveled. Another ggg grandfather, born 1804 in Beaufort Co, NC, wound up with land grants in Calloway Co., MO, lived in Lawrence Co., MO, and died in Greene Co., MO. Also, if you haven't done this already, check the land grants site.
