Dear Cindy, ArkansasFamilies.net is for the ENTIRE state of Arkansas, and we want any and all pictures that pertain to Arkansas, her history or her families. Those include family, school, landscape, roadsign, landmark, headstones, memorial markers, cemetery entrances, old sawmills, old wells, outhouses......WHATEVER......there will be a place for everything, as it all applies to our families and their daily lives. And we are not limited to photos, we need wills, marriage records, land patents, groupsheets, census records, family biographies, maps, and other public records. All submissions are welcome. We even have a section for "Music of Arkansas" for back porch (or front porch) singing! Though our artists are not famous (yet <g>) they send us their homemade tapes, and we put them up! ( http://www.arkansasfamilies.net/afmusriley.htm ) It's all part of Arkansas. We are only a couple of months old, though, so we still have a lot of information not yet entered. (To see what all we DO have ready, check the "Site Map" next to the search engine on the main page.) And, if you'd like, you can even create your own free family page at ArkansasFamilies, or we can do it for you, whichever is easier. ( http://www.arkansasfamilies.net/pgloinfo.htm ) A message board system has recently been implemented for everyone to post their statewide or county specific queries. http://bigmomma.proboards10.com/ Just remember that BigMomma's purpose in life is to provide a gathering place for everyone to share. No strings attached, just here for everyone to freely enjoy. BigMomma loves genealogy, her state and her families. Lots of lovins, huggins and good old corn squeezins! Geri, The "Handy Book for Genealogists" does not show such a county. The closest in spelling would be Desha County which was created in 1838. Could it possibly be that one? Does anyone know if there was a DACHINGO County, AR in the year 1838 and if so, what was it later changed to. Thanks, Geri
"The Handybook for Genealogists" published by Everton Publishers, Inc. lists all counties for each state, even if they are not longer a county. I looked up Arkansas, and could not find your Dachingo County listed. Also, Bill Dollarhide's "Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses, 1790-1920" does not list such a county for either 1830 or 1840.
