For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dovie I have looked for many years for a George W. Garner, I found one reference in Platte Co., Mo in 1849 on a tax list. Platte Co. records show the Garner spelled several ways, one is Gardiner and Garnier. Chances are mine and yours are not connected but I had to give it a try. My George W. was married to a Mahala and had a son James Conway born in 1845 I believe in Platte Co., MO. James showed up in Indian Territory in 1868 (I have a document to prove this.) James married Gatsy Parris in 1869 I believe and they had 2 children that lived. Gatsy died in 1878 in the Westville, OK area. Does any of this make a connection. George W. would have been born probably in the 1820's and one record says he was born in PA. Greetings, I am attempting to research an ancestor, Samuel Overton Harris, b. about 1818 in either TN or AR and who died perhaps 1836-1839 in Fayetteville, AR. He had married an Elizabeth or Bettie (LNUK) and they had 2 children while in Washington Co., Emily Jane Harris and Samuel Isabell Harris (my 2nd great grandmother who married Willis Casey in Texas in 1856). I have a clipping from a Fayetteville newspaper saying a Col. S.O. Harris died in Dec 1836 (Dec 11?), but am not sure this is the right S.O. Harris (Colonels usually aren't 18), and there are land deeds at ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/washington/land/washingt.txt showing a Samuel O. Harris having land deals in the 1838-1839 time frame. Samuel died young, and his wife Bettie Harris remarried a Willis H. Bruce, and they moved on to Bell Co., TX in about 1846-7. The Bruce family had more kids, but I'm chiefly concerned in finding out more about Samuel O. Harris, where he may be buried in Washington Co., AR, who were his parents, and what his wife Bettie (Elizabeth?)'s maiden name was and her background. Census records later on indicate her place of birth as TN. She was born about 1810 and died (unclear when) in Bell Co., TX. Thanks, dlc
Dear List Members, The entire RootsWeb.com web site will be down for several hours Thursday morning (6/12/2003), while the technical staff completes routine maintenance. This includes the mailing lists This maintenance will take place from approximately 1-4 a.m. (Mountain Standard Time). There have been times in the past when it took much longer than planned. Watch for more information at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi Please do not send TEST messages to the list. They will not be seen and will flood the list when Rootsweb is re-activated. I would even suggest you put off posting to the list after midnight until Rootsweb is back up and running sometime tomorrow. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on vacations. You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are gone and then resubscribing when you return. The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. I'm looking for information on my GGG Grandparents, John B. Nickell and his wife, Elizabeth, Bettie Nickell. I am trying to find out what Bettie Nickell's maiden name was. Many people are confusing her with the Elizabeth Baker who was the daughter of John Jackson Baker and Mary Campbell from Perry Co., Ky. but their daughter married a John Shepherd and then a James Hendrix and it appears that she stayed in Perry Co., Ky. whereas my Elizabeth, Bettie, Nickell was from Morgan Co., Ky. and lived there with her husband and children until they moved to Washington Co., Arkansas as did several of their children. John B. Nickell and his wife, Bettie Nickell are buried in Washington Co., Ark. in the Nickell cemetery there along with several other Nickell family members. Any information on this family would be much appreciated. I'd like to get in touch with some of their descendants. I am a descendant of their second child, Elizabeth Lizzie Nickell born Dec. 30, 1841 in Morgan Co., Ky. and married to Greenville T. Little in about 1860. Green and Elizabeth Little had 7 children while living in Wolfe Co., Ky. and then moved to Dallas County, Texas where they spent the rest of their lives and they are buried in Lancaster, Texas in Dallas County. Thanks, Jane Little McEndree [email protected]
