    1. RE: [ARVANBUR] Birdsong's

    3. So thrilled to hear from someone researching Birdsongs!!! My ancestor is actually not a Birdsong but I have a Birdsong Connection. Dee Wood was one of five children of LeRoy Harrison Wood and Ellen DeForrest Wood. LeRoy and Ellen were apprarently traveling through Van Buren County, AR in 1882 working with, or perhaps the owner of a traveling saw-mill company. Ellen gave birth to a set of twins; DeForrest and DeEtta (a boy and girl) in Sept. 1882. She died shortly thereafter either from the flu or else from childbirth. At about the same time as Ellen died; LeRoy also died of the flu leaving five young children including the newborn twins homeless and orphaned. Herbert was the eldest of the children and he was taken in by someone who owned a dairy where he worked for his room and board. The older girls, Ila and Edna May were raised by unknown families in or near Shiloh Arkansas. The twins were taken in by unknown families. DeEtta was raised by a Cothren family who owned some sort of horse ranch or farm where she was raised probably as an only child and was quite spoiled. DeForrest or "Dee" Wood was living with a Birdsong family in the 1900 Census of Shiloh, Cleburne Co. Arkansas. He was listed as an 18 yr old Orphan. I suspect they raised him from birth, but apparently though the children were taken in by various families, they were never adopted. I am interested in anyone researching Birdsongs- and hope to find a family story mentioning the fact that a Birdsong family took in your Dee as a baby. Have you ever heard of an orphan being raised among your Birdsongs? Thanks if you can help!
