    1. [ARVANBUR] Death certificate - 1903 - Van Buren County, Arkansas
    2. bj berrykeeper
    3. Hi, Many years ago I looked for a death certificate for my ancestor, Prettyman Berry, who died in Van Buren County, Arkansas in 1903. I don't remember the details (it's been MANY years ago) but I do remember that the State of Arkansas couldn't find a death certificate for him. I still want to find one, and I'm wondering if there would be anywhere else that I could look? Or, would it do any good to send the State of Arkansas Vital Records more money (they keep the money regardless of whether they find any information or not) just in case they missed it the first time around? I know my Aunt's birth certificate can't be found (possibly because the handwritting was bad and filed under some other name) and I know she had a birth certifcate because her mom said she did and all of her brother's and sisters had one. I will apparently have to go to Arkansas and look myself when I can afford to go back there (I live in Oregon). Meantime, is there maybe a local place that might have a death certificate for him? Would death certificates from 1903 be filed in more than one place (like maybe the county)? Thank you in advance, bj berry "A person should think with his heart". 3. Hi there, My ancestors are from Van Buren County as well, and we made a trip there three years ago and found the Van Buren County Historical Society in Clinton very helpful and volunteers very knowledgeable. Perhaps they could help you search long distance. 3. Hi Andy, Thank you. I've been in touch with them. I don't think I've asked them about alternative places to look for the death certificate though. I'll contact them again. Thank you. bj Andy Copping <copping@alaska.com> wrote: Hi there, My ancestors are from Van Buren County as well, and we made a trip there three years ago and found the Van Buren County Historical Society in Clinton very helpful and volunteers very knowledgeable. 2. Hi, There are no death certificates, that early, in Arkansas. The state didn't mandate them until 1914, and even then, there will be few found on file. I have a very early death certificate , 8-1916-for an ancestor, because he was in the mental hospital at the time of his death. If those family members have a birth certificate, they could have been filed later, as a Delayed Birth Certificate, and those, I believe, are held on a county level.

    3. Hi, I have a Van Buren County cemetery book and it shows a Pertiman Berry, 1888 - 1903, buried in Low Gap Cemetery, located .7 mile from Van Buren Rd #9 between Hwy 95 and Hwy 16 West. Fenced & cleared. When you were looking for death certificate did you ask for alternate spellings? 3. I have been looking, for years, for a Richard S. Evans that I am sure is buried in Van Buren County sometime after 1870 (b/ 1824). I am also looking for a William Pinckney (called Pinkney or Pink) Evans (b/1850) that is buried in Greasy Valley between 1900 and I would guess 1920. I have been unable to find them. Is there any help out there for me? Richard Evans lived around Clinton 1850 as a school teacher. He was still there in 1870, so, I think he died there. It would be such a treat to find these graves...margie hartman, ca On Monday, April 23, 2007, at 12:40 PM, Reba Dimond wrote: > Hi, > I have a Van Buren County cemetery book and it shows a Pertiman Berry, > 1888 - 1903, buried in Low Gap Cemetery, located .7 mile from Van > Buren Rd > #9 between Hwy 95 and Hwy 16 West. 3. Hi Reba, That is Prettyman Berry (grandpa used a phonetic spelling). The book is wrong though, the gravemarker says 1788 - 1903. That was probably a typo when they printed the book. However, records show that he was born in 1814. I did ask for alternate spellings. I've seen Prettyman Berry, Purtiman Berry, Pritemon Berry, Berry Prettyman, Barry Prettymon etc. Probably about twenty various spellings. No one can believe that a man was named Prettyman. He was named after his grandfather, Prettyman Berry. bj Reba Dimond <RebaTSLD@bigriver.net> wrote: Hi, I have a Van Buren County cemetery book and it shows a Pertiman Berry, 1888 - 1903, buried in Low Gap Cemetery, located .7 mile from Van Buren Rd #9 between Hwy 95 and Hwy 16 West.
