I have family in Culpepper Cemetery, Van Buren County, and I am interested in setting a new stone there. Is there anyone in charge of this cemetery, who can tell me any rules or regulations that need to be followed. Also, when is the Cemetery Decoration for this cemetery? Your test came through, and I was wondering if the list was still there. Does anyone have any information on a lady by the name of Faner/Fanier Yancey who married Gamblin Weeks in December 1858. They lived on the Van Buren Pope county line, and their marriage was listed in the Pope County Marriage records, but they were actually married in Van Buren County, by a JP. I know Gamblin's name appears in the Van Buren County History. He died in Cassville Missouri Union encampment August 1864. I am researching his life, marriages, and children, he is my great gggrandfather, and was in Reynolds County Missouri before moving to Van Buren/Pope County. 1ST ANNUAL JONAS HILL FAMILY REUNION Jonas Hill was born in 1763 in Granville County, North Carolina and died in 1840 in Franklin County, Tennessee. His widow, Mary Barnes Hill and most of their children then moved to Van Buren and Conway Counties in Central Arkansas. Many of his descendants still live here today. For the first time ever, the Hill family is getting together with their cousins from across the United States on October 14 and 15 in Morrilton, Arkansas. The Jonas Hill Family Association has been diligently working on DNA and genealogical research to piece together our family tree. If you descend from Jonas Hill, please make plans to attend this special gathering of Hill descendants, there will be lots of genealogy information to share, photos, family stories and fun for everyone. The children of Jonas include: Perry Hill who married Sarah and lived in Franklin Co., Tennessee; Margaret Ann Hill who married Capt. Thomas Jefferson Williams and lived in Center Ridge, Arkansas; William Hill who married Malinda Perry and whose children remained in Franklin Co. Tennessee; Bailey Marchbanks Hill who married Marthy Kuykendall who moved to Texas; Martha Ann Hill who married LeRoy P. Williams; Scarlet Anderson Hill who married Hannah Minerva Guinn and lived in Center Ridge, Arkansas; Mary Sidney Hill who married John Littleton Williams and lived in Scott, Arkansas; Jesse Calvin Hill who married Martha Reed (in Van Buren County) and Mary Holmes and lived in Center Ridge, Arkansas. Sons Henry J. and Claybourn did not have children and daughter Elizabeth has no information available at this time. The reunion will be held at the Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church Life Center, just north of Morrilton, Arkansas, on Hwy. 9, beginning at 9:00 am on Friday, October 14, 2005, with special activities and meetings on both Friday and Saturday. Looking for information on Wiley McIntire born probably in the 1840 to 48 time period in Van Buren County. He married a Lucinda Weeks in Pope County AR in 1872, but several of my Van Buren County families married in Pope County. Jettie
I was looking through the marriage records listed on the Van Buren County Rootweb site, and came across one I am curious about. 4/19/1885 Weeks, Joel to West, Nancy V It doesn't give ages, so I am not sure if this is the correct Joel Weeks or not. Is there anyone who may know anything about Nancy West and Joel Weeks marriage? What makes me so curious is the marriage listed right under this one, 2/07/1889 Weeks, John R. to Ashbury, Meda L. I know John R., who married Meda, was the son of Joseph Brown, who was really Joel Weeks born 1819 TN, but I had always been under the impression that his son Joel, born 1858, had died, and never had heard anything about a marriage. There had been rumors of the children had gone back to using Weeks as surname after Joseph's death in 1867, so looks like this could be the proof. Any help appreciated. Another family mystery! Looking for anyone who may be researching the Arthur family, who would have been in the Van Buren County or Pope County Arkansas area in about 1865-70. Angelina Brown married William Green Arthur in 1870 and they produced the following children: Lucinda; Wm Joel; James N.; & John D. Angelina was the daughter of Joseph Brown who lived in the area where Alread is now located from about 1853 to his death in 1867. He is buried on private property there, and his wife, Parzedia Van Zandt Brown is buried in Pleasant Grove Alread Cemetery. Would love to make contact with their descendants, she was a half sister to my great grandmother Susannah Lincoln Brown. Jettie
In 1858 Fanier (or maybe she was known as Hannah)Garner Yancey married Gamblin Weeks in Pope County, Independence Twnshp, which was near Alread, where Pope and Van Buren County meet as best I can tell. Gamblin Weeks died in August 1864 in Cassville Missouri while serving in the Union Army. I am looking for another marriage for Hannah/Fanier Garner Yancey Weeks, because there is evidence she applied for a pension for Gamblins service, but was denied because she had remarried. Here is a list of census records, I am also interested in who Mary Claunch, age 2, female, born in Arkansas belonged to, in the 1860 record. In the 1850 Census for Perry County, Arkansas, page 109, there is a family Napoleon B. Yancey-39-m-farmer-TN Fannah F. "" -28-f-TN Sarah A. ""-12-f-TN Elisha ""-8-m-TN John ""-6-m-TN Elizabeth ""-3-f-TN In 1860 census for Independence County, Pope Co., Arkansas, page 832, I found Weeks, Gamlia-62-m-TN Weeks, Hannah-37-f-TN Yancy, Elizabeth-13-f-TN Yancy, John-15-m-TN Yancy, Job-10-m-AR Yancy, Martha-5-f-AR Claunch, Mary-2-f-AR Allred, Solomon-36-m-TN Note: the index on Ancestry.com, spelt these names Saney.

I know the community of Alread was named after a family who lived there, who were probably one of the first families that moved to that area, around 1850, maybe earlier. What I am wondering is if the location of the town of Alread now is the same as it was when it was first named. Any help on early history of the mountain, and early inhabitants would be helpful, as I am researching the Alreads, who were related to my ancestors who move to the same area.. Jettie

Does anyone anything about Artherine Allen who is listed in the 1930 Census of Wellborn Township, Conway County, Arkansas? She is living in the household of her great-grandmother, Nancy Brinkley who is an 82 year old widow born in Alabama. Also living in the household is John A. Brinkley, 45, born in Arkansas, son of Nancy. I believe this is the Arthareen Allen b.8-14-1920 who married Walter Fay Wagley BUT I cannot find who her parents were.
I am at a brick wall, but believe I may see a crack in it. I have been looking for years for my husband's GG Grandfather, but with no luck. I have been able to find his Great Grandfather in the census from the time he was married (1910 Census) to the 1930 Census, but have had no luck at all finding him with his parents. I noticed in the 1930 census that there were additional family members listed in the household with him, and woman and her 2 daughters and another woman and her son. Both women were listed as Aunt to Edward WARD (my husband's Great Grandfather) and their children listed as Daughter and Son (of the aunts). I do believe that one of the Aunts (the one with the son, Carter) is actually Edward's Sister-in-law, Flory. She and her son are listed in the 1930 Census with the last name WARD, but in the 1920 Census they both are listed with the last name of PARISH (living in same household as Edward and Annie). I believe that she is the sister of Annie PARISH, Edward's ! wife. But, just as with Edward, I am unable to verify her parents and have had no luck finding her with her parents; but I believe them to be Myles Leroy PARISH and Susan QUATTLEBAUM. As I was researching the other Aunt and her two daughters who were living with Edward during the 1930 Census, hoping to find out his father that way. As I was looking for information on Ella WARD and her two daughters, Masell and Mable WARD, I came in contact with Ella's granddaughter. She stated that Edward Harrison WARD, my husband's great grandfather, married her grandparents, Roy and Ella WARD, along with some other members of her family (Edward was JP in Cleburne County, Arkansas at that time). She believed that the reason Ella and her daughters were living with Edward at the time was due to a tornado that ripped through Heber Springs in 1930. She also believed that Edward was her grandfather, George Washington WARD's nephew, but neither of us have any proof of this. She believes that Will! iam T. WARD could possibly be Edward's father and Henderson A. & Rebecca WARD are his grandparents. Again we have no proof of this. In the 1900 Census (Arkansas), it appears that they show his name as Edward G WARD born 1889 along with William C. (born 1894) and Pearl D. (born 1898). I do know that for a while I was unable to locate Edward in some of the censuses because he was listed as Harrison E. Ward or Edward WARD. I do know that Edward moved around quite a bit after getting married in Arkansas (not sure as before). Each census he was listed in a different city and county (Heber Springs - Cleburne County, Benton - Faulkner County, Bradley - Van Buren County). He also appeared to have a different job in each census. With this information you would think that I would have some form of proof whether or not this was in fact Edward's family, but I do not. Does anyone have any ideas on what other steps I can take to find this information? I haven't had much luck going through! what we believe to be Edward's father, William WARD. His middle name could be Thomas and/or Henderson or neither of those. It seems that all the information I have found or received seems to have made everything even hazier than before. The information I have on William T WARD, which again is not verified, just what I've found on Ancestry.com and the little bit that's been received from individuals, is that his name could possibly be William Thomas WARD, William Henderson WARD or William Henderson Thomas WARD; he was born about 1854 in Tennessee, and married either Jane B or Rebecca Jay LAY or LOYD or both. As I mentioned earlier, I've also hit a brick wall with Edward's wife, Annie PARISH. I was able to verify her maiden name from their son, Howard Hayes WARD's Social Security Card Application. I am unsure exactly how his father is listed since I no longer have a copy of the application (I gave it to my sister-in-law), but I believe it was Harrison Ward as this was the name I searched for many years. His mother was listed as Annie PARISH (possibly PARRISH). I searched for Flory (or Florie) in hopes of finding Annie and the closest I could find was Myles Leroy PARISH who had a daughter Anne and a daughter Flora that were close to the same ages that I had. With her being a female, it seems to make Annie harder to find. I believe they may have at one time lived in or near the Batesville area in Independence County, but am not sure. I do know that their son, Howard Hayes WARD died in Batesville in September of 1980 and was born in Pearson, Cleburne, Arkansas in 1921. Any information or suggestions on how I might be able to find out more on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance. ~Cassandra
