The cemetery book has just the names of people with tombstones. It was done about 1993, so anyone buried after that date, or any tombstones placed after then will not be in the book. There are a few names mentioned with no dates (when someone knew that person was buried there but did not have a stone with the name/date). Someone had taked small aluminum tags and put names for all the known graves that were unmarked in the Pleasant Grove Alread Cemetery. The cemetery book listed my great grandmother, Parzedia Brown, and beside her, John Brown, so we knew they must be there, but, the tags were not visible So, knowing they had to be there, I did a little 'digging' and located the markers. So, I ordered a new stone for her grave, that was large enough to see. And John's grandson, who lives out of state, gave me money to get his grandfather a stone. The most of the first row on the eastern end in Pleasant Grove Alread, are related to me, and part of the 2nd row. Plus, others scattered all through the cemetery. Charlotte, is this an updated book, or is this a reprint of the book from about 1996-98? I have that one, and I love it. I found my great great grandmother's grave, and that of her son, which we didn't know where were, and we have now placed new markers. Thank you, Charlotte, for the note about the Surname Index Book offered by the Historical Society. If you were new to the Van Buren County area & did not know the background of the VB residents, this is a great help. I have had the Cemetery book for years now & it is very well marked up!! By the way did you receive the Genelogy of 'Andrew Harrison "Andy" UNDERWOOD'? This family ties back to the BOSTs, MORGANs, & many other Van Buren County Families in those early years. Were you able to open that file up & browse through it? Let me know if you had any problems. Sorry, I don't have any Richard S. Evans (or any derivative) listed in Van Buren Co. I show a William P. Evans born 24 Sep 1874 and died 16 Jan 1939 - Bee Branch Cemetery. I can't find anything other than what my grandmother knew. My grandmother Bessie , her mom Mary, sister Adele, half brother Jim Gibbons and dad John Shelton went over into Oklahoma to find work. John Brown died there and is buried in a Red Hill cemetery somewhere on OK.Mary was first married to Epks Gibbons. he died and she married John. I have an old picture of Mary, John, Bessie, Adele and Jim standing by an old covered wagon that then went there in. the picture was so dark you could hardly tell who was in it. A friend scanned t a few years ago and made it larger and clear. JoAnn ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Hi Mary and Brad, Thank you. I was told by the Mormon Library (I used to live in Florence, where there is a library) that when I'm doing research, I need a 'stake' library. A stake library is one that has the information handy so you don't have to order things by mail and make many trips back to it (you can get most of your work done in one trip). There are Mormon Churches closer to me, and I think that all of those churches have libraries. However, to get to a 'stake', I need to go to Coos Bay (I don't live in Coos Bay, I live in Springfield). I need a 'stake' library because I am a full time student (even in the summer) and I work two part time jobs, so I don't have much spare time to keep going to a library and re-ordering film (it's much more effective for me if I can go to a 'stake' and get my work done all at once). Plus, the libraries that are not 'stakes' need to order the information, which they need to charge me for ('stakes' don't need to order the information, so they don't charge a fee). It's worth a tank of gas to drive to Coos Bay. I grew up in the country, so making a four hour trip isn't really that big of a deal to me. I had to drive two hours just to go shopping for kids shoes. Besides, I will try to set it up so I can visit with my best friend who lives in Coos Bay. I haven't seen her face for months. Thank you for the addresses though. I sure appreciate your help. I just love this forum. It reminds me of my relatives from Van Buren and how they all help each other. Kindness must be in the water back there! There may an LDS genealogy library closer to you than four hours away. Look in the white pages of your phone book for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If there isn't a library phone number listed, phone one of the branch or ward phone numbers, and ask them where the closest genealogy library is located. Good luck! Cool! Thank you! I will try to get down to the LDS stake (is that the right word?) in Coos Bay, Oregon. It's about four hours from here. I'm in final week at school right now, so it will be next week. Thanks Lynne! bj > > Van Buren Co Genweb <lynn_risener@yahoo.com> wrote: The old court and probate records. You can look on the site at the ones I transcribed from earlier years....all kinds of strange things pop up on them. If I don't have a list of LDS film available for VB Co somewhere on the site....I think I do....let me know. Just do a search for LDS on the VB Co site and see what turns up on there. > > County Coordinator for Van Buren County, AR web site > http://www.rootsweb.com/~arvanbur/ > > --------------------------------- > Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? > Check outnew cars at Yahoo!
