    3. I am also interested in being a long-distance member. My grandmother was also born in VanBuren Co., Arkansas. (Hi, John Steward!) She was Eura Brock, daughter of Thomas Brock and Rosie Steward. I am hoping to find more information regarding an John Eason (daughter Bethany/Elizabeth) family that lived there (1860 +++) and married Samuel N. Steward, in Alabama before they all moved to Arkansas. Others: Barshaba Eason (possibly daughter of John) married to James M. Shelton John Eason Jr.? (possibly John's son) married to Mary Stewart(d)(possibly Samuel Stewart(d)'s sister) Mary Stewart(d)'s first husband was possibly Benjamin Walley Martha Eason (not sure if she married) William Eason (died in Civil War) Richard Eason (enlisted 31st ARK, listed as deserted) Olly Stewart(d) married to Sion Waters, had son, Clark Waters, may have remarried, possibly to Jackson Newman [Newnam]in VanBuren Co. 1881 Barshaba Steward, married to Mack Blevins Nancy Steward, married to Fountain Blevins (sisters and brothers) Mancel Steward, married to Ellen Parish John Steward and I are also related, although not through our Steward families. 3. I am excited to see the note from John Seward of San Antonio, Tx saying that his grandmother was born on Holley Mountain in Van Buren County,Ar. So was my husband's grandmother Winnie Clementine Holley Wallace,(born 1858, I think). She was the daughter of Milton Alexander Holley and his wife Peggy Stanford of Iuka, Mississippi. Sometime in the early part of the Civil War, Peggy took her daughter back to Iuka to live with her folks while husband Milton Alexander Holley served in Civil War. Confederacy. ACtually I believe Milton Holley took his wife and child there before he enlisted in the Confederacy as he served with a Mississippi unit, not Arkansas. He was injured at Champion's Hill, Vicksburg. I do not know if that family ever got back together. Eventually Winnie Clementine grew up and married Wilburn Sanford Wallace , probably in Corinth, Mississippi. At least two of the children of Winnie and Wilburn were born in Corinth (Alcorn County) Mississippi. They moved to Van Buren County, Arkansas where Winnie still had kin. Wilburn died in 1900 and is buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, formerly called Shedd Cemetery. Winnie moved to Garland County, Arkansas where her oldest son Marion SAnford Wallace (my father in law) took homestead land in 1906. Winnie is buried in Byers, Colorado where her oldest daughter Polly Plummer lived on a wheat farm. The grandson of Winnie and Wilburn Sanford Wallace died in a POW camp in Mukden Manchuria Dec 1942, having survived the POW experience in Cabanatuan, Bataan but died soon after being transported on a 'hell ship' to Fusan Korea and on to Manchuria by train. He was moved to Hawaii for burial after the war. His name was Ernest Atchison, son of Ruth Caroline Wallace and James Ewing Atchison of Snyder, Oklahoma. Some of what I have said may be in error but that is the way I have it in my mind . . . without digging out some boxes with files. Everyone please feel free to correct me. 3. Hi all, I would like to be a long distance member of Van Buren County genealogy. My great grandfathers, James Edward Stephens and Joseph Duskin Lane both settled in Dennard, Van Buren County, AR. Many of their children were born, married, and buried there. James' daughter Emma Viola and Joseph's son Henry Bluford "Blue" Lane were married in the Methodist church in 1903. In 1980 I made a trip to Van Buren county to see if I could trace my family history. I stopped on a country lane to look at a lovely meadow, and a pickup truck stopped and the driver asked if I was lost. He turned out to be Virgil Lane, the grandson of Joseph Duskin Lane. He and his lady friend spent hours with me that day, taking me by the old homesteads, to cemeteries where family was buried, telling me about the family, and even introducing me to family members. I have only been able to return one time since, and have visited the grave of my great grandmother, Susan Caroline Pasley Stephens in a small cemetery on the east side of the highway travelling north of Dennard. There is a small church just across the road to the south of the cemetery, and my grandmother's grave is covered in seashells, placed there by my grandfather. I have lost all the photos I made on both trips, so must travel back again some day! I am so glad this group is being formed. I am happy to share info I've gathered, but admit I need to fill in some gaps and find out more! Regards, Janet Lane Copping Anchorage, Alaska
