I am trying to determine the maiden name of Samuel Riley's wife Nicey . They are found on this 1870 Van Buren Co. Ar. census: Samuel Riley age 32 b. TN Nicey " 30 b. TN Mary " 10 b. AR Jalina? " 6 b. AR Hugh " 4 b. AR Ephriam Williams age 6 b. AR Elvira Williams " 4 b. AR William M. Williams " 1 b. AR Ningen Riley " 1 b. AR Was Nicey Samuel's second wife and the mother of these Williams children or his first and only wife and had they perhaps taken the children of a Williams relative to care for, from the ages and two different surnnames among the children there was evidently two different mothers, as there are two, six year old, two four year old and two one year old children with different surnames, perhaps the mother of either the Williams or Riley children died in childbirth with one of the one year old's listed???? Samuel Riley's parents were: Ningon Riley and Martha Powell and their children were: Sarah Riley, born 1826 in Wayne Co, TN. She married Robert Hall. infant Riley, born 1827. Anna N. Riley, born 1833. She married on 20 Jun 1867 in Scotland, Van Buren Co, AR, John Hillis. John Riley, born 1833. Hugh Riley, born 12 May 1836 in Wayne Co, TN. He married Nancy Jane Parnell. Samuel Riley, born 1837. He married Nicey (---). Mahala C. Riley, born 1838. She married James Foster. James W. Riley, born 1839. He married Mary Jane Foster. Ningon Riley (Jr), born 1841. He married Charity (---). Ambrose Riley, born 1844. Mary Riley, born 1846. I would like to hear from anyone with information on this family? Thank you. Sandra

Hello again--- Ooops! I neglected to list the given names of the Bowling / Boldens on my last posting. Sorry: William b. IN 1819-1820. Died? don't know, perhaps Arkansas after 1897?. Maried four times. Son of Rev War vet Joseph BOWLING. (Info from his mother's widow's pension app.in 1858., Greene Co, IN.) Joseph was a lot older than his 2nd wife Martha (WILLIAMS). William's wives:: to Hannah TRUSTY 1838 to Pharabe LASHBROOKS 1868 to Nancy MARALETT in 1874 to Sarah TILLERY in 1884. All of the marriages took place in Orange County, IN. Children by Hannah TRUSTY were Jeremiah born in IN in 1840 and John W. born 1845 in IN. William spelled his surname BOLLING. Court documents for his mother Martha WILLIAMS) BOWLING's Rev War widow's pension file application shows William's parents were Martha (WILLIAMS) and Joseph BOWLING, born 1753 and died 1836 (in Orange Co IN.) I do not know if William had any children by his other wives (I don't know their ages when he married them either.) Jeremiah spelled his name BOLDEN. He married Jane Ann Cox aka Anne Jane COX, in Orange Co IN in 1860. Jeremiah and Ann's children were: James W. BOLDEN b 1862 in IN Jacob BOLDEN b. abt. 1863 in IN. (May be the Jacob on Van Buren Co , AR 1900 census) John W. b. 1866. Interviw with 91 r old son indicates they lived in Blytheville, AR, Mississipi Co area. Returned to Orange Co IN in 1893. Martha b. 1868 in IN . No other info. Reuben b. 1874 in IN (Ann's father was Reuben COX). No info Philip b 1877 in IN. No info Sarah born 1878 in IN. No info. ---- Other clues: A Jerry BOLDEN was found on the AR Land Records, purchasing land in Marion Co, (what twp? Prairie Twp?) in 1897. A William BOLLING purchased land in Marion Co AR in 1897. A descendant of Jeremiah found a Jacob BOLDEN listed on the Marion Co AR, court docket for 1884-1896. Later a Jacob BELDON or BOLDEN was on 1900 Soundex for Van Buren Co. I wasn't able to find a 1900 census, but a very nice lady helped me and there was a Jacob BOLDEN in 1900 in Red River Twp Van Buren CO. Jacob BOLDEN born Aug. 1864 in IN, father born TN (could be error?) mother born IN, farmer Tabitha, wife, born Sep 1863, born TN, father and mother born TN. What was her maiden name? Their children : James W.. b. 1887 in AR Jennie R, daughter, b. 1889 in AR Jerry P. a son, b. 1892 in AR Clyde C. b. listed as a daughter???) born 1894 in AR King W. a son, b 1898 in AR -----I would like to find this Jacob on a 1910 census. I looked at Van BUREN and couldn't locate him. I would like to correspond with Jacob's descendants, as a direct descendant wants to do further research, including a visit to Arkansas in the spring.. ANY info is appreciated!!! Thank you so much, Joanne Lehman erictem@earthlink.net

Hello! I am a new m member of this list. Are there any descendants of BOWLING families, any spelling? I am looking for male BOWLING (etc) born in the state of Indiana, who moved to ARK in the late 1890s or thereabouts. Their year of births ranged from 1819-20 to late 1890s. Given names may have been William, Jeremiah (Jerry), John, or James. My Rev War ancestor Joseph BOWLING, born 1753, died in Orange CO, IN in 1836. His son William, born 1820 in IN, and William's sons Jeremiah, born 1840, and John, born 1845, and their wives and families, left Orange Co IN after the 1884 and moved to 'somewhere in Arkansas'. A variety of spellings were used by this family over the years. Any info will be appreciated. Thank you. Joanne in California
Hello: Does anyone have easy access to the 1860 and/or the 1870 census and could do a lookup for me? I'm searching for Jesse WILLIAMS who moved to Van Buren Co. in about 1858. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Tracey Baldwin
HI Listmembers -- Hope all had a very Happy Holiday season. I have request to make to all. I am undertaking the production of a book that will be an update to the book "Brents, The Joshua Tree" by Pauline Phillips Church published in 1979. She is my cousin. I have allot of information that people have sent me, but I would like to include everyone that WANTS to be included/updated in the book. I know that will be 20 years of updates. I hope to have the book ready to go to the printer in March. It will be available for sale to anyone interested. I am estimating the pages to be between 1000 and 2000. At the present time I don't know the price. Please pass this request to anyone that might be interested. Thank you all for your help in the past and in the future. yvonne brents henson ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: Main lines: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR Co-lateral lines: BRAZIL, CARLOCK, HARPER ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://home.netscape.com/webmail
Hi Listmembers, Hope all had a restful holiday. I have some new information and more questions I hope someone can help me with. 1900 census for Pope County, Lee Township lists Lewis Gamble with wife Mattie Gamble b 5/1870, daughter Lori b 11/1891, daughter Lona E b 12/1893, step-son Will Morgan b 12/1885. It also states that Mattie is the mother of 3 children with 3 living and that Lewis and Mattie have been married 12 years. I have a marriage license for Louis Gamble age 21 of Atkins and Martha Morgan age 19 of Atkins 5/31/1888 listed in Conway County. I have another marriage license for Wain Grant of Atkins and Mattie Gamble of Atkins 1903 Conway County. I have Wayne and Mattie in the 1910 and 1920 census for Hughes County Ok. Listed with them is a son Claude Grant. On the 1910 census Mattie is listed as the mother of 2 with 1 living. Now for the questions. I would like to locate a marriage license for unknown Morgan and Martha Taylor it should be about 1884. In any county between Randolph and Conway . I would like to establish that Martha's parents are Thomas "Tommy" Taylor and Mary Jane "Pop" Justice. They were from Randolph County Arkansas. I think her birth date is between 1868 and 1873. What happened to her Morgan husband and to Lewis Gamble? Did they divorce , die or quit the marriage? Why were her daughters not listed with her on the 1910 and 1920 census? Where were they? Why does she say she is the mother of 2 children on the 1910 census? What happened to Will Morgan? Does anyone have him in their line? I know Lori/Lura, Lona and Claude are deceased. They are all buried in the Holdenville Cemetery in OK. I have some emails from relatives but the information handed down is sketchy at best. If anyone has any suggestions or can help with any of these people I sure would appreciate it. This is about as far as I can go. Thanks in advance for all your help and have a great New Year with your research. yvonne ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: Main lines: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR Co-lateral lines: BRAZIL, CARLOCK, HARPER ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://home.netscape.com/webmail

Jan. 31, 1913 Tuck and N.B. McGlathery were almost scared speechless while out hunting one day last with a Winchester pump gun, which exploded or fired while being loaded, blowing the breach of the barrel open. Thursday evening of last week Uncle mart Edwards, while at work weather boarding a house at arlburg, had two ribs broken, one of the bones of left wrist and his collar bone fractured by the falling of a 14 feet scaffold on which he was standing. He was being assisted by Jud and Bruce McGlathery, the latter alighting on his feet had both ankles thrown out of place.
Jan. 31, 1913 "Grandma Driver" is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. John Bost. Henry Simpson and wife are visiting relatives of the Gridley neighborhood. Theodore Hillis and wife, of Jerusalem, spent Friday to Sunday inclusive with the latter's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Price Stroud of this place. We are indeed pleased to note that Will Whitfield, mention of whose illness was made some weeks since, is improving and that hopes are now entertained that he will be restored to health, family and friends. J.M. Stroud has sold his farm to Willie McGuire, the consideration being $500. Mr. Stroud has purchased the "Uncle Fayette" branch farm for which he paid $200. The latter is preparing to move to Oklahoma where he will make his home. Married, Sunday, Jan. 26th, 1913, at the home of the bride's parents near Scotland, Miss Nora Deason, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.M. Deason, and Mr. Freyaldonhaven, of Morrilton, Rev. George W. Hatchett officiating. The bride is a sister of Mrs. J.S. McMahan, of Clinton and is well and most favorable known in this community, where she has frequently visited, as a most worthy and exemplary young lady of pleasing graces and charming personality. The groom is reputed a worthy and successful young farmer, honored and respected by those who know him. The Democrat joins with the many friends of the bride here and elsewhere in the county in wishing for her many days of happy wedded bliss.
Jan. 31, 1913 Miss Elzie Bane, of Angora, and Claude Thomas, of Arnold, were happily united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents last Sunday week. Both of the contracting parties were born and reared in this county where they have man friends now living who join with us in extending congratulations and best wishes.
Donnie, Thank you for taking the time to send the information. I am descended from the Bost family. Lori
Jan. 23, 1931 Scotland Here is a little family history, furnish by our friend, Johnnie Crow, which we challenge any other community in Arkansas to duplicate. Living in Liberty township and within a radius of one mile, are representative of five generations, all born in Van Buren County and whose family record is absolutely clean all down the line. We start with Mrs. Elizabeth J. McAlister, age 87, who is the mother of Mrs. Caleb Bost, aged 62, the mother of Mrs. Ira Stroud, age 38, who is the mother of Mrs. Edgar Henley, age 23, and the mother of little Edna June Henley, age three months. Child, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Can you equal that?

May 26, 1911 The sale of the personal property of the late L.M. Hardin last Saturday was well attended and all property brought good prices. Corn sold for 70 cents. Two milk cows brought $57, while a small sow and six pigs sold for $21. The only horse for sale brought $140. Chickens brought market prices and household and kitchen effects sold unexpectedly well. A gasoline engine, purchased last season to furnish power for a gin saw at a cost of about $600, sold for $300 and was bought by H.F. Hardin, a brother of deceased.
Aug 4, 1911 A happy family reunion took place last Thursday at the home of Mrs. M.E. Bradford of near town, who had the pleasure of welcoming her two brother, Lafayette Cavender of Dumas, Ark., and Franklin Cavender of Sherman, Texas. Also, two nephews, Lawrence Cavender of Howe, Texas and Walter L. Terry of Little Rock, the latter being accompanied by his family. It was also a happy occasion for "Grandma" Finton, who makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Bradford. Few women who have reached the four-score year and three mile post have the pleasure of entertaining all their living children at one time as did this good old lady. Another interesting feature of the reunion was the presence of five generations, ranging in age from three to ninety-three yeas.
Owen Bost and wife are preparing to return to Los Angeles, Calif. Mr. & Mrs. J.K. Driver are rejoicing over the arrival at their home last Friday night of a fine boy. We are indeed pleased to know that John Bost, who has been ill for two weeks is now on the road to recovery. Joe Whitfield, of Lonoke county, came in last week to see his brother, Will, who is very low at this writing. he is also visiting his father-in-law, W.W. Burk. Frank Campbell and Miss Vannie Wilson were married Sunday at the home of the bride's parents. We join with many others in extending congratulations and good wishes for a long and happy wedded life. Clinton's Sick Recovering "Uncle John" Hackett, typhoid fever, continues to improve, although to him the progress doubtless seems slow. considering the seriousness of his condition at one time and his consequent weakened condition his family and friends feel he is to be congratulated upon the progress made. Mrs. Minnie Russell, who contracted the pneumonia while visiting at the home of her father, W.F. Griggs, successfully passed the most dangerous period last week since which time a commendable improvement has been made. It will be several days, however, before she could hope to leave her room, much less expect to return to her home at Ft. Smith.
