    3. I have the Van Buren County Cemetery book but it lists no cemetery named Flat Rock. I have found that some of the names of old cemeteries has changed over the years. In Conway County, the largest cemtery, Elmwood in Morrilton City limits, was once Knights of Honor, they found this while researching old newspaper obituaries. I did, however, find Emmer Bond married D. M. Johnson in 1910, Book 10, page 148. There is also a Lizzie Bond married to James Obid in 1911, book 10, page 294. There are only two other Bond surnames and the dates are 1880 & 1929. Hope this helps. Reba Dimond

    2. Jettie
    3. For those of you that may be looking for information on Scotland AR, or locations close by there, there is a new book out: ECHOES FROM THE ARKANSAS UNIT NEWSPAPER, published in Morrilton Arkansas 1927, compiled by Cathy Barnes, and published by Arkansas Research Inc of Conway AR. This is Ms Barnes' 5th book on Conway County Newspapers, and I have found many of my Van Buren County families in them. You can go to Arkansas Research's website www.arkansasresearch.com to see if any of your families are listed by going through the indexes before purchasing. So far, in the several books on Conway County newspapers, I have found my great grandfather's death listed, my aunt's death, and many other enteresting notes about several relatives. 1. [ARVANBUR] Wood Children orphaned in Arkansas
    2. LeQuia Family
    3. Hello- I am looking for info on five children orphaned in Arkansas in 1882 or soon thereafter when both parents died of the flu. LeRoy Wood/Woods and Ellen DeForrest Wood had three children when they arrived in or near the Heber Springs area of Arkansas with a traveling sawmill company that LeRoy either owned or worked for. Herbert LeRoy or Bert was the oldest who had been born in abt. 1867 in Wisconsin. Two girls; Edna (possibly Edna May), and Illa or Hilah - unknown birthdates and locations (could be any state). Ellen gave birth to a set of twins; a boy named DeForrest but called Dee, and a girl named DeEtta but later called Etta. Ellen died when the twins were infants (possibly in childbirth- but suffering from the flu) and LeRoy died soon thereafter. The five children were left orphaned. They were divided up and raised by different families apparently knowing of one another as they grew up and probably attending school together. What happened to Edna and Illa or Hilah? They are said to have been raised near Cleburne county where they knew their siblings growing up near them. They must have married somewhere near there- White county, Cleburne, or Van Buren counties. I cannot find a marriage record for either girl. Illa supposedly married and lived in her later life in Colorado. DeEtta married David Richard Harmon in 1898 in Cleburne county. She was probably raised by a family named Cotthern or Coffey? They apparently had a large horse ranch in or near Shiloh. Dee married a girl named Belle- unknown maiden name. In 1900 census he was living with a Birdsong family and listed as an orphan. He lived the last 12 years of his life in Arizona, near Prescott, as a farmer. His wife survived him and it isn't known where she went after his death. He may have had a daughter named Selma or a son named Dempsey. Bert was my ancestor. He worked for a dairy in the Heber Springs or Shiloh area for several years before moving into Missouri to work the lumber mills and he married there. He lost track of his siblings over the years and had a great desire to find them all; but wasn't successful at finding them. Does anyone have any clues that might help in the search for answers about this family? I'm particularly interested in the families that raised these children; a Birdsong family, a Cotthern/Coffey family, and two unknown families that cared for Illa and Edna. Since Bert worked for a Dairy- I'd like info on the family that ran that Dairy Also interested in anyone who has an Edna or Ila that could be mine. Have lots of info on Wood ancestry to share- a several photos. Sheri LeQuia 1227 Panorama Pt Merced, CA 95340 (209) 725-2974

    1. [ARVANBUR] 1860 Census puzzle
    2. Mike Landwehr
    3. Hi, I'm hoping that I can find someone who can help solve a puzzle regarding the 1860 Van Buren County census. In a recent visit to the Arkansas Archives in Little Rock, a fellow researcher believes that she saw an entry in a printed copy of the 1860 Van Buren County census for Malinda Estes and Sarah Estes. Malinda and Sarah Estes were listed in this printed census as step-children (but we don't know the name of the head of the household). But, this researcher indicates that a subsequent search of the microfilm version of the 1860 Van Buren County census does not turn up ANY Estes entries. (There were Estes children listed in a Bennett Bradford household in Van Buren County in 1870 who could be part of the same Estes family. But, we believe that Sarah Estes and Malinda Estes were both married during the 1860's, and were living elsewhere in 1870.) If someone on this list has access to the PRINTED copy of the 1860 Van Buren County census, we would really appreciate your checking to see if there is an entry for Malinda and Sarah Estes, listed as step-children in the residence of their step-father. Thank you so much, Mike Landwehr
