Hi, Karan. It probably isn't too likely that we're connected if your Russells were from Union County, but it's possible. My Russell family was from Orange County, NC, moved to Saline County in 1848/49. Then, around 1900, after the death of my great-grandfather, John Alexander Russell, my great-grandmother, Virginia (Jenny) McFadden Russell, moved to El Dorado with her four children: Wilson William, Ethel, Fred (my grandfather), and Isaac McFadden Russell. They lived next door to Charlie and Bertie Murphy, who were Jenny's cousins. I'm sure I have the address of the house somewhere. Jenny lived there until her death in the 1940's. Wilson and Ethel, who never married, stayed on in the same house until they died in the 1970's. Wilson worked at a brewery and was a deputy sheriff for a while back around WWII. Ethel was a buyer for Samples Department Store. My grandfather moved to Sebastian, then Crawford County. Isaac married Alta Blackstone and, at some point, moved to Chicago, where he died in the 1920's. He had a couple of kids, so that would be the best possibility, unless you have connections to the Russells in Saline County. If it turns out you're researching the same Russells, I have lots of information on them, which I'd be glad to share. Margaret
I am looking for any information on the L D Martin family listed in Union Co. AR census in 1850. His name is Luther and wife Ruth. Please help! Sharon Holland
Sharon You might try Leon or Freestone Co. TX. My Husbands family was in Union Co. Ark. in 1850 & they came to this area & I do find a Martin name connected to them. Off the top of my head I can not remember what the older Martin's name was. Pat Oates in TX. One of my Husband's GG Aunts married a George Martin we think. They had 2 children & she must have died. I am thinking this George Martin may have belonged to this Luther Martin family but have no proof. The family that I am working on that was in Union Co. Ark. is the William Thomas Lummus family. William T Lummus had been in TX before 1850 & married Dorothy Mason in about 1847/48 & was back in the house with his Mother by 1850 in Union Co. Ark. I was told when I started working on this family that the father may have been murdered in Union Co. Ark. around 1850. We made many trips to the court house searching for proof of his death but no luck then about 4 yrs. ago I picked up a court order book in the court house & run the index & found nothing but just could not put that book down. I started reading from page 1 & about 15 pages into the book I found where the court paid the coroner for the inquest held over the dead body of John Lumbus<Lummus>. It had been indexed in the coroners name. Pat Oates in TX. At 08:11 PM 4/22/2001 -0500, you wrote: >Pat, > >Yes! That is them in Freestone County, Texas. Is your husband part of that >Martin group? Pat, Yes! George was one of the kids. Please tell me about the aunt and their children. My James Samuel Strickland married an Eliza Martin (but the marriage certificate said Mayberry or Mayloney). When her daughter died, my Susan Alice Strickland, her mother's name was listed as Liza Martin. The family talked about George and a Joe Martin as cousins. Are the Martins tied in with with William Thomas Lummus? Thank you!
