Hello list, I am searching for my grandparents: John W. HELM b. 15 May 1871 Iowa m. 13 Oct 1891 to Lorena (Lora) SPARKS I was always told that they lived in Howell Co., MO. However, I have been searching in that area to no avail for some time. I went to the BLM land patents.....could not find them in Missouri and decided to try Arkansas. A John W. HELM came up in Union Co., AR. I would like to check the 1900 Census. Can anyone tell me where the Enumeration Dist. that the land office of Camden or Township 19-S would be located? Thanks, Lorena HELM Zamboni
Your family must have traveled the the Griffin line of union Co., if in the 1900 Census from North Carolina. The Helm and Griffin family mixed in Monroe, North Carolina. Just read your mail, but I think there is a strong possibility you're on the wrong John W. Helm (not Helms) as far as the land transaction goes the one who bought land appears to be John William Helm b. Marion Co. Texas in 1869, died Union County Ark in 1967. Son of Jacob W. Helm and Nancy E. Goza. John "Will" was my Dad's 1st cousin. Will was 38 years older than my dad. If yours bought land in any township and range after about 1890, his and everyone's land office would be in Camden, Ouachita Co. Ark.
