Hi, A Marguerite Stegall had a request for information in the 1987 SC Magazine of Ancestral Research. She listed some family information which I do not have. I wrote to her a few weeks ago (when I found the request)and the letter was returned "deceased". Does anyone know this family or if the library in Strong would have family files, etc? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. G-Nell Winslow EWinslow1@aol.com
Which Marguerite Stegall?? If it's the woman I'm thinking of, she was single and her brother died back in the 80s. I've tried at various times since then to contact her but no luck. Hi Janet, I apologize for this long winded message, but hopefully someone on one of the lists I am posting to will have some information I am searching for. I have the genealogist's bane - a brick wall with my direct line from SC > Alabama > Texas. However, I'm making slow progress with the Arkansas Honeycutt's. In the tree below, I don't have the county in Alabama, where the brothers were born and no family records. William Jackson Honeycutt is my direct line. The census records over the years are consistent with the birth locations. A grandson of William Jackson named Finess Raymond Honeycutt was living in Clarksville, TX as late as June 1937, when he applied for a Social Security account. He was working for the WPA. Sometime after 1937 he disappeared for awhile, but resurfaced briefly, then later he was never heard of again. I just recently found him through the Social Security Death Index in El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas. That's where the info stops on him. I'm almost positive he was remarried either in Arkansas or Texas before his death in 1970. What I find interesting about Union County, Arkansas, is the number of Honeycutt's that lived there. I am wondering if Finess knew of a family connection there. I ask myself, why would he leave Red River County, TX, for El Dorado, Arkansas? Since there is usually a logical reason why a person chooses a place to live, and Finess wasn't known to be overly enthusiastic about working, I would bet that he had found a relatives there. They had a son born in December of 1890 named Ira and he states in census records his father was born in Arkansas. I have no birth or death info on H. Matt and do not know what became of him. Octavia died 3/18/1896 and was buried in Red River County beside her first husband, James P. Lipe. Her tombstone reads, O.E. Lipe 1860-1896, with MOTHER across the top. Also, can put you in contact with researchers here in Louisiana and in California. I am discovering that all Honeycutts are related but in some instances cannot yet find the connection. Where are you located? Which Honeycutt is "your"? I was told that "my" Honeycutt, John, migrated from NC (although I do not have proof in writing), to AL, MS and eventually into North Louisiana. Then several went on into Texas and Illinois. The puzzle just keeps growing. Look forward to hearing from you. Janet Cusimano New Orleans

Is there anyone who will do a lookupfor ADDIEVILLE( SHRODER )(SCHRODER) Married name SYKES. Died about Oct-Nov-1886. In I believe Union County, Jackson Township. anything, I appreciate, Sandy D.
Is anyone familiar with the Bethel Primitive Baptist cemetery, which I believe is on or near O'Rear Rd. This is an older, rural cemetery, and I would like to find out who I might contact that would possibly have an index listing of who is buried there. I am looking for an ancestor who might be buried there who died in 1862. His son-in law and several other relatives have been located there, and they died around the same time period. This man was living with his daughter and son-in-law when he died, so I feel there is a good chance he might be buried in the same place. Any help with names, phone numbers will be greatly appreciated. Leslie Hill LHill42731@aol.com
I was wondering if someone knows if there is a book that has been put out that has a lot of the cemeteries in Union Co (and possibly the southern part of Calhoun Co) inventoried. I am trying to find out if a man named Davenport Graves, who died in 1862, might be found. In 1860 he was living in El Dorado with his daughter. He had lived in Calhoun Co and owned land before getting too old and having to move in with relatives. If anyone can possibly check on this for me, I will be very grateful. Yes please do send me to the web site you metioned. The Tucker I am searching for was in Caddo Co sometime around late 1800 or early 1900s. He was Choctaw Indian and died in Mc Curtin Co but I have found not a trace of him as proof. He would have been my gg grandfather. Doris Gameson
Hi D :) Nibble, nibble :) I don't know about Union County, but there were a slew of Tucker's in Union Parish, Louisiana. If you aren't subscribed, I can send your query over to them. As I stradle both states within my own family (Day, Jones, Manning, Reppond, Pilgreen et al), I'm familiar with your problem. Lori Our Mixed Nuts .. err .. CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land; The pollster was ready ... a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride; His book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there; Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face; And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water ... as they sat at the table; And she answered his questions ... the best she was able. He asked of her children... Yes, she had quite a few; The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; his sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride; And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age... The marks from the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children, she nodded her head; And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot"; Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon ... or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear; But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such; They could read some, and write some .. though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done; So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear; "May God bless you all for another ten years." Now picture a time warp ... its' now you and me; As we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow; As we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day; That the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel; And the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart; Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart. Author Unknown

It's not to late to make plans to attending the Arkansas Family History Association's February lecture. Our topic this month is genealogy on the internet. I'll be showing you some of the search techniques I use to locate information. We will also answer your questions, or a least try! So, stop by and see us on Sunday, February 20 at the Central Arkansas Library at 100 Rock Street in Little Rock. The lecture will run from 2-5:00 and we will have vendors present with lots of books! The lecture cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door for members. To become a member of AFHA, all you have to go to our website and fill out the membership form. Your information will be safe with us, we don't sell our mailing list. We have setting for 300 so there should be room for all!
