Sharon You might try Leon or Freestone Co. TX. My Husbands family was in Union Co. Ark. in 1850 & they came to this area & I do find a Martin name connected to them. Off the top of my head I can not remember what the older Martin's name was. Pat Oates in TX. Hi, Karan. It probably isn't too likely that we're connected if your Russells were from Union County, but it's possible. My Russell family was from Orange County, NC, moved to Saline County in 1848/49. Then, around 1900, after the death of my great-grandfather, John Alexander Russell, my great-grandmother, Virginia (Jenny) McFadden Russell, moved to El Dorado with her four children: Wilson William, Ethel, Fred (my grandfather), and Isaac McFadden Russell. They lived next door to Charlie and Bertie Murphy, who were Jenny's cousins. I'm sure I have the address of the house somewhere. Jenny lived there until her death in the 1940's. Wilson and Ethel, who never married, stayed on in the same house until they died in the 1970's. Wilson worked at a brewery and was a deputy sheriff for a while back around WWII. Ethel was a buyer for Samples Department Store. My grandfather moved to Sebastian, then Crawford County. Isaac married Alta Blackstone and, at some point, moved to Chicago, where he died in the 1920's. He had a couple of kids, so that would be the best possibility, unless you have connections to the Russells in Saline County. If it turns out you're researching the same Russells, I have lots of information on them, which I'd be glad to share. Margaret
Margaret, Which set of Russell's are you working on? I have 2 sets of Russell's in Union Co. that I have been working on also. Karan
Hi. I'm new to this list, so I thought I'd post my surname interests. I'm researching the RUSSELL, WILSON, ELDER families, who moved to El Dorado in the early 1900's. They married into numerous families in the area, and, as far as I know, there are still descendants living there. Some of the families related by marriage are: BLACKSTONE, MURPHY, NORRIS, GAITHER, DOUGLAS, BARTON, MILES, BROWN, etc., etc. If anyone on the list is interested in any of these families, I'd be glad to hear from you. Taken from the Bass Family History written in 1955 by Ivan Bass George L. Bass aka Dock son of Malachi and Arcadia Polk Bass was born June 26, 1839. No further information of Dock Bass has been obtained unless it was he who purchased a tract of land from the government in 1879, the land being situated in Union Parish, Louisiana. In connection with the purchase of this land, Dock Bass made the following statement: "I am forty years of age; have a wife and three children; settled on the land January 15, 1874; established residence on the land in November of 1873; built a house on the land in 1873; my address is Farmersville, Union Parish, Louisiana" SSDI revealed 16 Bass' with the last known address of Union Co. including Dock Bass. Hi Could someone please do a lookup for me in a cemetery. I don't know which cemetery. I am looking for a Robie Mitchel and his wife Bedie Mitchel. I know Bedie was born 22 Sept 1908 in Bradley county and she died 1993. I know he has also passed away. I don't have any information on him. I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance Tanya Squires
Hi List, I am searching for members living in the household of 'Ira Calbert' or any 'Calbert or Calvert' on the 1880 Union CO., Arkansas census. This will help me understand (I hope) how family is related. This is a 'Major' jump up my 'Brick Wall.' Thank you very much, Dena Jordan California.
I saw this site on another list. Great basic information on Arkansas counties. It can maybe help some people new to genealogy. www.segenealogy.com/arkansas Brent
Hello, all - Does anyone know the road name/number that the Parnell-Whitten cemetery is on? I believe the cemetery is in El Dorado West and is associated with a Baptist church, but I may be mistaken about that. Thanks in advance -- Nancy Parnell nparnell@erols.com
Hi! My name is Paula and I'm researching the Byrd family from Union County. Could someone look-up a Thomas Byrd in the 1860 census for Union county for me. There are 2 listings for the name on page 189. Thanks for your time, Paula in Minnesota
Hello, Union County. I am searching for information or descendants of Richard Buckner, Sr. and wife Ellen Powell and their son Richard Buckner, Jr. and his wife Victory (Victoria) Harris who were living in Union Co. when they married in 1872. This is an African American family. Thank you. Best Regards, Patricia Stillwell Mims Rochester, NY
Hi Kay, I do know this much - the Stegalls of Strong migrated there from Union County, NC. Mr. Jesse Stegall married my parents in 1936. He was a preacher of the Church of Christ. There are two Stegall descendants that live in Strong, but doubt if they are interested - both in 80s. Will ask my mother about them, where buried, etc., and let you know. Miss Marguerite was an excellent genealogist and a very helpful person. I grew up in Strong and highly doubt that anyone in her family valued her work as much as several of genealogy friends. When I am in Strong (probably during Christmas season) will check with some folks to try to find out what happened to her research. She always gave of her self, never married, took care of her aged parents and then sick relatives. She was very gifted.
