I found a William P Hearn in the 1880 Pope County census. Is that your William? This probably doesn't help at all, but I just thought you would want to know. Maybe we are related, but I haven't traced my Hearn line into Pope County yet. Still searching though. Cassie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Would Jesse Lee Hearn be related to William P Hearn? I have traced William P Hearn from AL to Pope County, AR. I don't know when he went there. He married my great grandmother in Pope Co in 1883. I have not been able to find anything more. Dorothy in California DotsP.
Hi Dorothy, I don't see a William P Hearn in my file, but we may have a connection somehow. Do you know when he was born? Who his parents were? What county in AL he was from? My Hearn line from Alabama were born around Franklin and Colbert county. My g-g-g-g-grandfather, Jessie Lee Hearn, died in Saline County, Ar I think. He is supposedly buried there, but I can't find his tombstone. Maybe we are related. It is always nice finding family! Cassie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Richard, Are you by any chance a relative of a Dallas & Annie Ora Harris Dills? If you are, you are related to my Harris McGee cousins there in El Dorado. I don't have a lot of information on the family -- the Harris and McGee's I have a tad more. Hope to hear from you, K. Looking for any information on the Dill family of the El Dorado area. Many of my Dill relatives moved to Texas in either the 1860s or 1870s and settled around the Eastland County, Texas, area (plus other parts of Texas). Also, is there a Union County History book that can be purchased that is in print? Richard Foster Austin, Texas

In those days Union Co.,AR was one of the largest counties in ARK & El Dorado was growing. In 1854, it was probably easier to get married there, than travel south to New Orleans or Baton Rouge & in those days, Monroe & Shreveport were small towns. There were several Byrds in the El Dorado area....so it is very possible they had kin there. Some folks sorta moved back & forth from Union Co. to Louisiana. There was also a big land patent office on the Ouachita River at Champagnolle, outside the town of El Dorado. The main info for a marriage in 1854 was handwritten in a ledger/sometimes in a deed book. If you are lucky it will give the Groom & Bride's age, but now & then some folks who were of age chose not to give it. It will tell you who married them & sometimes if one was underage, it will mention consent given by parents & how. Sometimes there are witnesses. I have boo koodles of kin who married in Union Co. & I have copies of the originals made in the 1840's & 1850's.....usually they are about a paragraph in size. The court clerk used some little squiggly sign as his special mark at the end of each one & then there are one or two lines space between marriages. Later marriages, sometimes, mentioned where the groom/bride were from, such as LA or the county or the township. If the bride has been married before it will usually list her as Mrs. Ann Smith, for example. Hope this helped answer your question. They do have marriage books that have been extracted from the Union Co., records, but some of the little details you are curious about, probably won't be there. You can write the ARK History Commission in Little Rock, giving them the info you have, pay a fee, & request a copy of the original marriage license. Can someone please tell me what all information was taken from the bride and groom in Union Co. for a marriage in 1854. Maybe where they were from or witnesses. My gggrandparents SAMUEL E BYRD and HARRIET A CLAYTON were married in Union AR., 22-July-1854. All other records I have found on them are in LA. I am wondering why they traveled to Union Co. to get married. Did they have family there, etc. I would appreciate any help. Thank you! Gwen Byrd Perkins

Hello Everyone again! Sorry - my previous post should have been for GILSON/JILSON HARBIN. Joan Marie in Oregon
Hello Everyone, I am new to this list and would like your help in getting a death date & obit for the above man. According to the 1880 census for Franklin, Union County, he was 79 then, his wife Mary Ann was 29 and they had a 20 day old dau Carrie. How's that for an interesting story! Seriously, has Union County done a cemetery survey that might give me a death date? He must have died fairly soon after that (or maybe not). Judging from his deed records he came from Monroe County, AL but lived in Franklin from 1850-80. He was previously married to Rachel Cook. Any help would be appreciated. Joan Marie in Oregon
Pat, Yes! George was one of the kids. Please tell me about the aunt and their children. My James Samuel Strickland married an Eliza Martin (but the marriage certificate said Mayberry or Mayloney). When her daughter died, my Susan Alice Strickland, her mother's name was listed as Liza Martin. The family talked about George and a Joe Martin as cousins. Are the Martins tied in with with William Thomas Lummus? Thank you! One of my Husband's GG Aunts married a George Martin we think. They had 2 children & she must have died. I am thinking this George Martin may have belonged to this Luther Martin family but have no proof. The family that I am working on that was in Union Co. Ark. is the William Thomas Lummus family. William T Lummus had been in TX before 1850 & married Dorothy Mason in about 1847/48 & was back in the house with his Mother by 1850 in Union Co. Ark. I was told when I started working on this family that the father may have been murdered in Union Co. Ark. around 1850. We made many trips to the court house searching for proof of his death but no luck then about 4 yrs. ago I picked up a court order book in the court house & run the index & found nothing but just could not put that book down. I started reading from page 1 & about 15 pages into the book I found where the court paid the coroner for the inquest held over the dead body of John Lumbus<Lummus>. It had been indexed in the coroners name. Pat Oates in TX. At 08:11 PM 4/22/2001 -0500, you wrote: >Pat, > >Yes! That is them in Freestone County, Texas. Is your husband part of that >Martin group?
