Our Smith's originated ca 1800 in Grainger Co, Tn, remained there until 1830s, by 1840 Greene Co, Mo (briefly), then 1850 and thereafter in Union Co, Ark. area (one branch went to Texas in the 1870s). Head of these was Archelus Smith born ca 1800 died 1860s in Columbia Co, Ark (in area that may have been in Union originally). Archelus' wife was a Warwick. I come from his oldest son, Prior Anderson Smith and 1st wife Rachel Jane Burk born Murray Co, Georgia (Prior's 2nd was a McDaniel from N. C.) The Hammontrees married into this Smith family as well.
Particularly interested in the Floyd Adams family of Union County, Arkansas. This bunch migrated from Georgia to Arkansas around 1855 - they appear in the 1860 Union County census. Large family - most did not marry. Buried at Champagnolle. I am descended from son of Floyd, Seaborn Adams and his wife Nora Emma Willoughby. Large family here, too. Would like to contact any descendents. Seaborn was married more than once. Have a fair amount of information to share - looking for someone who knows about the origin of this Adams family. Lynda Moreau Metairie, LA
Would like to contact anyone working the Lummus name in Union Co. ARK at any time. Some of this family married into a NALL family that moved into north LA in maybe Clairborne Parish or Union Parish. Our line came into central Texas just after 1850. This Lummus family was in the 1850 census in Union Co. ARK. Pat Oates in TX
Wishing to make contact with AL BOLLINGER albol@iop.com (old email address) Al is a Langford-Witherington (Union County, AR) descendant & researcher. Dena, the website address below has several AR African-American cemeteries. For Union County it only lists Lott-Burgy. Here's what I know: (William) Henry Roberson + Elizabeth Ann (Minerva) Jones married 1847, he was 28 and she was 22 (original record in El Dorado Court House) Henry died in 1858 leaving his pregnant wife and 4 children, listed in probate records as follows: (original record in El Dorado Court House, includes appraisal of estate, auction & misc other documents) William James Roberson b. 1847 Sarah E. Perlina A. Alice V. Henri Ellen b. 1858 (after her father's death) The 1880 census shows that William had married and moved to Columbia Co. (He eventually had a large family and moved to OK. He became a baptist minister. He is buried in Darwin, OK.) Sarah E had married John P. Henry and was still living in Union County. I did not find Perlina A. on this census, but in 1887, she marries Robert Goza (Golsby/Gozey) in Union County. Alice V. was married to Charles F. Goode. Son Robert Goode, only a few months old, was in their household. They lived in the next household from her widowed mother and younger sister. Henri Ellen marries John Hiram Goode later that year. 3 of the girls were married in 1879 or 1880. The 1880 census shows that both Henry & Elizabeth migrated to Union County from AL. Elizabeth's parents are both listed as being from SC. In documents, Elizabeth Ann is listed variously as EAM, AE, Elizabeth Ann, Elizabeth Ann Minerva, but in verbal family stories was Minerva Jones. Family name is listed as Roberson/Robertson/Robinson. Other than the marriage record, other files I have found in the court house are filed in a folder under the name "Robinson". Consistently the name appears as Roberson when Henry signed (land records & marriage). Elizabeth signs with "her mark" so may not have been able to read. 11 years after Henry's death, she was still going to court attempting to settle the estate. There had been a number of administrators assigned to the estate on her behalf. She believed that Henry had served in the military and was entitled to a land grant for that service. She did not know where he served, the name of the commander or any of his commrades. (Draft of affadavit is in possession of Roberson cousins.) This family has long been a mystery to us and any new "breaks" would certainly be welcome. Although I have connected with desc from William James (my own line) I have never yet found any desc from any of his sisters. Thank you for any asstance or any new clues. I would certainly welcome some good news... Angelia
Steve, Your Jones sure sound like the Jones family that married into my Smith family. The name of the Jones is not available to me due to not much was spoken of him since he was my great aunts husband and we saw her very little. But they did live in the same area's you spoke of and my Great Aunt was living around the area of Junction City. My grandmother was born there and lived there also in 1920 census I believe. I don't even know what happened to this man. Except I believe he died because of an old family story and she remarried. But they had two children born in the late twenties or early thirty's. The oldest daughter was Leedesel "Lee Des Sell" who is also now deceased. Some of the Smiths were in Camden, Ark and this would have been a Rosa or called Aunt Rosie (Smith) married to a G.W. Poindexter.
