Thanks Ginny and Barbara, I have never looked in MO for my Barney B. Haley, oh silly me, he has two brothers in MO in that 1867-1875 time frame. "Lavicy" and her husband John A. Duke are found living not far from her parents in 1860. According to the Cannon County Federal Census Lavicia was 24, John was 38, he is listed as being a Carpenter with personal property of $400. They had three children, Monroe age 6, Elmida age 4 and Benjamin 3/12 months. John and Lavicy have not been found in the 1870 census records, however their daughter Sarah, born about 1868, was born in IL according to 1880 Federal Census, which leads this researcher to believe that they left Tennessee to settle land that the State of Illinios was offering to anyone who was willing to settle in Illinois. But the land was poor and many of the Tennesseeians that moved to the area, moved on to Arkansas, Missouri, and even back to Tennessee. And since her sister Sarah Haley Elam wife of John Elam followed them to Illinois as evidenced by the fact that both families had a child born in that state, it is safe to assume that the two families traveled together. Ginny, in going over some of my census records for this Duke family I found Wily Duke living next to my John Duke family, I believe that these two Dukes were brothers, John names his youngest son Wily. Can't find the TN census where all all the Dukes are all living next to each other (my files are a mess right now) but your Henry is among those all living close to each other. Thanks for giving me the clue to looking for my Haley's in MO.
