I was wondering if you might have and index for a George W. Goodman, born 1838, KY, father Joseph L Goodman, born 1818 Ky. This side of my family came from VA>KY>AR, originally to Marion County, but their settlement became a part of Baxter County when it formed in 1870 (i think 70). Anyway, I cannot find the death or burial records of either, my G or GG Grandfather. In Flippen's account or early Marion County, he talks about a George Goodman that left AR, after becoming disillusioned with farming, and went to Texas where he died. But, both had land right where the Buffalo and White Rivers join, not far from Buffalo City, according to the land records of the 1800's. I'm wondering if they could've been buried in another county of AR. My Goodman line was all over the northcentral part of AR after they arrived and for 3 generations after. I cannot find these two guys anywhere, after abt.1872, when my Grandfather, Tate, was born in Baxter County. They would not have b! een extremely old. Most of our ancestors lived well up into their late 70's to late 80's. If you can some how help us with this, we would be extremely greatful. We have searched and searched. Death Record Index "Arkansas Death Record Index" I have all 4 volumes that have been published. Volume # 1 Feb. 1914 through Dec 31, 1923 Volume # 2 01 Jan.1924 through Dec. 31, 1933 Volume # 3 01 Jan. 1934 through Dec. 31, 1940 Volume # 4 01 Jan. 1941 through Dec. 31, 1948 If you do or when you send for a death certificate, be sure to include where you received the information. Not me, but from what book/volume "Arkansas Death Record Index" If you are lucky enough to find your surname in these Death Record Indexes, PLEASE, include the Volume #, Page #, and Column # and the exact spelling of the surname as it was printed, date of death and County the death occurred when requesting a Death CERTIFICATE. This complete information will help that department find the death record you are seeking. By Arkansas law, Feb.1914, deaths were to be reported, but some counties were slow to report deaths. If you know a date a person died and they are not in these indexes, your date could be right, just not reported and not on file. These death records are copied and published in these 4 Volumes from the Health Departments (Vitals) own records in their files. These death records were prepared for publication by: Desmond Walls Allen. Published by Arkansas Research P.O. Box 303 Conway, Arkansas 72033 Address for Death Certificate Arkansas Department of Health Division of Vital Records 4815 West Markham Street Slot # 44 Little Rock, Arkansas 72205 $4.00 per death certificate Extra charge for credit card ($5.00) by telephone request, for a total of $9.00. 501-661-2726 Tip: The information on a Death Certificate is only as good as the information from the person giving the information. This informer could be a neighbor, relative, friend, nurse, or even a Dr. Also check WHO is giving the information if it is on the certificate. Usually, not always, the death certificate gives the Funeral Home used and/or the cemetery where the person is buried. Hope this helps.
