This may very well be my husbands Duke line. On the 1910 Lawrence County,Arkansas census, our Sarah is married to Joseph Warren Howard, she list her age as 41,and brn. in TN. On the 1920,Lawrence county,AR Census she says she is 51,and it appears that she says she was brn. in Texas. My copy of the census is very dim,so just can't be sure. But the birthdate is very close to be our Sarah, and also the fact that she had a brother named Monroe, really makes it interesting to me. Monroe Duke ,hand crafted a Quilt box for Sarah and Warrens wedding, and we still have it in our possession. Warren and Sarah were married in Evening Shade,Sharp County,AR. Nov.09,1888. My husband is a Grandson-I can document all of her family up to the present time. Barbara in Wichita
Hi, I have Duke's in my Haley line, John A. Duke married Lovicia "Viciey" Haley, sister to my gg-grandfather Barney B. Haley. My Dukes came from Cannon Co. TN (1860 Fed Census) and show up in Pleasant Hill Twp in Izard Co. (1880 Fed Census) John and Viciey had a daughter named Sarah who was born in ILL. abt 1868, the rest of the children are bn in Arkansas. It is thought that these Dukes were traveling with Viciey father Barney B. Haley after they left TN however have not been able to trace where they were in 1870. Do you guys have any clues that might help tracking these two families down? Descendants of John A. Duke 1 John A. Duke 1822 - . +Lavisa Haley 1836 - m: 15 Oct 1852 in Cannon Co. Tennessee .... 2 Monroe Duke 1854 - .... 2 Almedia Duke 1856 - .... 2 Benjamin Duke 1860 - .... 2 Sarah Duke 1868 - .... 2 Mary Duke 1872 - .... 2 Wiley Duke 1875 - Any help would sure be appreciated. ----- This notice was in a local Izard Co. Newspaper today. Thought someone might know some family members. MRID is in possession of an old tombstone. It is a Woodsmen of the World Memorial. The name on the stone is William A. Wilson, dated April 30, 1869 to July 9, 1918. In checking with past commissioners, we can verify that this has been her at MRID for many years. However, no one is knowledgeable on how it got here or to who it may have a familial meaning. If anyone has information concerning this, we would appreciate them contacting the MRID office at 870 670 5184. Note: MRID is in Horseshoe Bend AR. North east part of Izard Co. AR. Betty BB
