I do not recognize the Jackson name immediately but I know that one of my Dawson relatives married a Mobley in NC before she came to Sharp Co. There are still plenty of Mobleys around the area. My Dawson family intermarried with them several times. Unrelated to that, there is an Estes buried in Wilkerson Cemetery in Grange but as far as I know there has been no abstract done on that cemetery. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi Rose Mary, Ester was Dad's first cousin. I only met her once, because I was not raised by Dad, and was only able to make occasional trips to visit, after my children were older. She seemed like a sweet, talented woman. Auston died before I was able to visit with Ester, but Dad sent a number of pictures of the two of them over the years. Thank you ladies for doing the lookup for me on Sarah Howard Carter. Poor Sarah, she died and then her husband and children moved to the panhandle of Texas and left her all alone. Hope I can find her one day and visit her grave. Appreciate your help! Carla Jackson
My record shows this: FLETCHER, Paralee (age 15) and DUKE, Henry (age 26) both of Evening Shade, Ar. married: 18 Dec. 1904. Married by: John D. Ragan, J.M. DUKE (signed) H- 186 DUKE, D.C. (age 21) Agnos, Ar. and MAURY L.J. (age 16) Fulton Co. married 30 Oct. 1890; Married by R.H. William; James D. (?) DUKE (signed) E-375 I am researching: Sarah Elizabeth (FLETCHER) TINDEL who married George D. POWELL of Evening Shade, Ar. on 1 April 1886. Married by: J.P. Lowery J.P. with J.W. POWELL ( signed ) If anyone can help; I would appreciate it. Ginny
I have found that sometimes you have to go sideways before you can go forward. Hi Ellen, LOL...........I always go sideways in my research........at first.........forward and backwards too. Ginny
Barbara and Ginny, I goofed in identifying the relationship of Barney B. and Jane Brewer Haley to the Dukes, I think I said that Vicey was a sister to Barney B., I meant to say that Vicey Haley Duke was the oldest daughter. An other daughter of John A and Vicey, Almedia Arabelle Duke bn 13 Jan 1856 in Cannon Co. TN; d. 20 May 1953 in AR; married Alexander C. Jack. (in the 1880 census for Pleasant Hill Twp in AR I noticed that the Duke's are living next to a Jack family and because my copy is so light in places I can't read the name of the Head of Household, other than that she is a widow age 44, daughter Martha age 18, and son William age 10 are living with her; wonder if Alexander Jack belongs to this family? Any one out there know anything about this Jack family. Sorry if I seem scattered, but I have found that sometimes you have to go sideways before you can go forward. Thank you for all your help, Ellen Tolleson Reesh |
Thanks Ginny and Barbara, I have never looked in MO for my Barney B. Haley, oh silly me, he has two brothers in MO in that 1867-1875 time frame. "Lavicy" and her husband John A. Duke are found living not far from her parents in 1860. According to the Cannon County Federal Census Lavicia was 24, John was 38, he is listed as being a Carpenter with personal property of $400. They had three children, Monroe age 6, Elmida age 4 and Benjamin 3/12 months. John and Lavicy have not been found in the 1870 census records, however their daughter Sarah, born about 1868, was born in IL according to 1880 Federal Census, which leads this researcher to believe that they left Tennessee to settle land that the State of Illinios was offering to anyone who was willing to settle in Illinois. But the land was poor and many of the Tennesseeians that moved to the area, moved on to Arkansas, Missouri, and even back to Tennessee. And since her sister Sarah Haley Elam wife of John Elam followed them to Illinois as evidenced by the fact that both families had a child born in that state, it is safe to assume that the two families traveled together. Ginny, in going over some of my census records for this Duke family I found Wily Duke living next to my John Duke family, I believe that these two Dukes were brothers, John names his youngest son Wily. Can't find the TN census where all all the Dukes are all living next to each other (my files are a mess right now) but your Henry is among those all living close to each other. Thanks for giving me the clue to looking for my Haley's in MO. Hi Carla. My grandmother was born and rasied in Sharp County. Her name was Sarah Edna Carter. It has been suggested to me that she was named after a relative b the name of Sarah Carter. I have not been successful in finding any info in that regard. In fact, all Carter info is sketchy or missing at best. My grandmother was born in 1909 ( I think) and died out here (in CA) in 1989. She was related to Clyde Carter (cousin) and Joe (cousin). My grandmother married Alvin Clayton Haley and they had 5 children. I can get the info confirmed, if you want more.
