The 1880 Sharp county census indicates that Hardy Mills, and wife Hannah Hawk Mills were residents of "Scott and Big Creek" at the time of the census. Anyone know where these places were, and if they still exist? If so, how about cemetery names in the area? Thanks for any help! We are trying to fill in some blanks in my husbands Hastings family. We have his line back to John W. and Hannah (Anna) Estes Hastings, who came from N.C. to Henry Co Tn in the 1820's, and on to Izard/Lawrence Co Ark. about 1840. Their oldest son, James W. married Melinda Faulkenberry, and lived around Franmklin. Their children were William, John, Ruth, Rebecca, James Porter, Jefferson, Arch, Robert. Melinda died in 1875, and is burried in Roberts cemetery, Franklin, Ar. The 1880 census for Lawrence/Sharp shows James W. married to Susan Estes. So far we have been unable to find where he is burried. He is not in Roberts, unless it is an unmarked grave. Would anyone have any info on where he is burried? Also, there is a picture of Hickory Flat School, 1914, in the Izard co. History Book, with a Thelma Hastings. We feel sure she is related, don;t know where she fits in this family. Also...Morris Hastings, we think he was a cousin to my father in law, William Garland Hastings, again we don't know where he belongs. They lived so close to the Sharp Co. line and some lived in Sharp Co. any help will be appreciated. Myrlene Jackson Hastings
Hi Michael My name is Loyd Sanders and have no kin with the last name of Loyd. However, my ggrandfather Samuel Blake Sanders lived in the Sharp/Lawrence county area from 1846 until his death in 1901 had a brother Harris M. Sanders married a lady named Elizabeth Perkins Loyd on Aug 1, 1847. She had two boys John M. Loyd and William E. Loyd. These two boys were the sons of James C. Loyd who married Elizabeth Perkins and died Mar 26, 1846. John was about 10 yrs on the 1850 census and William was 8 yrs. I have some limited additional info. on this family. If this is part of your line, please contact me and I will furnish you with the rest of the info that I have in my possession. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Peters" <two4peters@verizon.net> To: <ARSHARP-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 02, 2005 5:00 PM Subject: [ARSHARP] Henry F. I am researching my great grandmother, Sarah Carter, born 1864 in MO. I believe she was the daughter of James Carter. She married James Thomas and had several children. After James died, she married Bill Jones and had more children. Sarah is buried in Baker Cemetery in Izard Co. She doesn't have a head stone but we have several relatives who knew she was buried there with at least one of her children who died when he was a toddler. My grandmother spoke of a cousin Joe Carter. I would appreciate any info on the Carter family. Barbara, Thank You! My grandmother, Sarah Edna Carter, was raised in the area of Evening Shade and Ash Flat. Her father, James Dallas Carter, was from that area. I have found very little about him or his family except from the Ash Flat history book that came out about 2 years ago. It had one very short reference to him. I was hoping this Sarah Howard Carter had married into that family. Hi Mark, I am wondering if there is some type of connection there anyway. Seems odd to have 2 Jackson families naming their sons James Monroe when they are in essentially the same locations (1 county apart). Are your connections listed in Ancestor.com? Enoch was born in 1928 and one of the databases we had showed he and Marcus being born to Binns Jackson from Virginia. I think Enoch was born in NC and moved to Henry County TN at some point. Enoch's son, James Monroe, was born in 1860. Do you have a listing of all of the children of Marcus and Thomas? I would love to see it. Maybe it is a connection we were not aware of. According to Zelma, they are the graves of Matthue and his wife. I have photos of these graves if you would like as well as a photo of the house that used to stand there. Rick, I do not think our Jackson Connect here. Marcus B. Jackson in My Line was Born to Thomas Jackson and his wife Delilah(Maiden unknown) in 1827 in Franklin County,TN. James Monroe Jackson was born abt.1851 in Lawrence County,AR to Marcus Jackson and his wife Mary Ann Barnett. There are many Jackson lines and there are several here in North Arkansas. Since James Monroe was one of Our Presidents, and since people named their children back then after presidents a lot, it is not that suprising, and our two James Monroe Jackson are nine years apart. Does anyone know what church he was with? He died after 1880 and is in Sharp County census of 1880. Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation. Larry Mills Alpharetta, Georgia
Rick, Thanks for the location of the Cemetery. James Monroe Jackson's father is Marcus B. Jackson who is the son of Thomas Jackson. Thomas was born in 1790 and died in 1834,Marcus was born in 1827 and died in 1857. James Monroe was born in 1851 and died in 1919. The information you gives tells me this is not the Jackson Cemetery i am looking for, it is the one though that i did ask about. Thanks again for the information. I found the Jackson cemetery mentioned by Robert Nicholson just south of Poughkeepsie. It is about 100 yards on the north side of a creek which is just down the hill from Harry and Zelma Howard's house. Zelma's grandfather bought this house from Matthue Jackson, who we think is Enoch's father. There are some old style flat stone graves there in addition to the one of Ben L Guy. According to Zelma, they are the graves of Matthue and his wife. I have photos of these graves if you would like as well as a photo of the house that used to stand there. Zelma lent me her original and I copied it, scanned it, doctored it and it looks passable. It has her family standing in front of it....it is a pretty rough looking place. Anyway, if you are interested in any of this info....let me know. I am going to be passing through the area at the end of April and was going to try to do a little bit of cleanup there. It is rough. I'm not good at distances, but that sounds about right. It will be on your right going from Ravenden to Hardy. It is on top of a hill. There is a gate near the road. My late husband and I were there looking for his great-grandfather, Obediah Thomas. This land, at one time, used to belong to Louis B. Thomas, son of Obediah. We were told that Obe was buried on Louis's land. We located this cemetery but there wasn't a tombstone for Obediah. Just 3 tombstones were there and they were all Jacksons. I hope you find it if not let me know.
