    3. The caretaker for Mt. Carmel Cemetery is Bill Westmoreland Rt 1, Box 262 Sidney AR 72577 I don't know if they have mapped the cemetery, however. In a letter I received he says "I have seen their grave but will not be able to tell you just where they are." I've been to the cemetery and searched all over for headstones but not found all the one's I'm expecting / hoping to find. There are a lot of broken / missing headstones, so I'm thinking they are there but just a little lost (for the moment). I'd like to find them and place markers so they won't be quite so lost in the future. So here's where I need some help. Does anyone know who the caretaker for that cemetery would be - who would hopefully have a map to the location of the graves for the cemetery? Or maybe you know a local funeral home I could contact that might take me to this info? For those interested (or incase there are some other Elder descendants out there), here are some of the one's I'm searching for. If you happen to be an Elder descendant I'd love to hear from you. 1 - Margaret E. Duncan - died about 1899 2 - William Bradley Elder - also died about 1899 3 - Mary Ann (Danner) Elder - died before 1910 I think 4 - Mary Frances (Elder) Crownover - died about 1914 Mary Frances is a daughter of William B. and Mary A. Elder (who are my gg-grandparents via daughter Sarah Catherine Elder Williamson). I found 2 of Mary Frances's sons (Leo & Levi) & her husbands father at the cemetery as well as another sister Emily Ann (Elder) Story & her husband William. 3. Does anyone have a copy of Desmond Walls Allen "Abstract from Sharp County Record Newspapers" for 1909? I need the information for Mrs Ida Wilkerson on page 35. I think it may be notice of her death, since we think she died in early 1900. I have the following copies of Desmond's Abstracts from Sharp County Record Newspapers for 1898, 1899, 1890-1891, 1896-1897,1885-1888, I'm willing to look up names. Please be specific with names and dates, and no more than 3 names at a time, please. Thanks a lot Peggy - Calif.

    3. Have you checked the Melbourne Library? There is a book there with a list of cemeteries and names on tombstones. Sharp County also has a similar book. There was a ladies' group who went to the cemeteries, I believe in the 1960's and did a lot of work on this. 3. Hi Elden, You might try contacting the Old Independence Regional Museum in Batesville, AR. They have a book with Sharp County cemeteries and some of them have row numbers of the locations. their email is oirm@oirm.org or you can call them at 870-793-2121 or their address is PO Box 4506, Batesville, AR 72503. I found a lot of info for Sharp County Families there. 3. Is anyone researching the Lawrason, Buchanan, Tipton, or Smith families? Annie C Lawrason married Charles R Buchanan and is listed in the 1880 Census in Izard. Annie is listed in the 1900 Census with James T Smith, son-in-law, and Maude Smith, daughter. Annie is 62 and Maude is 17. I am trying to determine is Maude is actually Annie's daughter. Anyone with information about these families, I would really appreciate your help. Annie's sister, Alice Susan Lawrason married Henry Clay Tipton and died in Batesville in 1905. Another sister, Ida Augusta Lawrason married John S Wilkerson in 1887 in Evening Shade, and died about 1901 in Sidney. Thanks for your help. Peggy in California

    3. Rick, The Powhatan Court House had old documents the last time I was there. There is a book with an index but I do not have a copy. Perhaps you could contact the Powhatan Court House or post a query on the Lawrence Co., AR mailing list. They have some documents on my Lowden Jackson born in NC and he died 1861. I do not have copies yet. His children according to a census record were Wineford, Delitha, Nancy, Patience, Eunice, Lowden, Sylvany, Thomas, and Jacky. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. Need to locate someone known as "Uncle Arkie" in 1880!
    2. Dorothy Boynton
    3. Would anyone know of someone who might have been referred to as Uncle Arkie and could have been related to Dr. Thomas Morton's family or the Matheny family of this section of AR in 1880. Dr. Morton's daughter Nomia b. 1858 married Jeremiah Freeman Matheny in this area of AR about 1876. A daughter Nancy Arabella Matheny was born 27 Feb 1877 and the mother died in childbirth. According to family members, the child was taken by Aunt and Uncle Arkie - who ever they were. The father, J.F. Matheny is found in Baxter County for the 1880 census in the household of Thomas Bryant. He is listed as a SS and having had typhoid. That would mean that Jane E. Bryant was a widow of Unknown Matheny. They Bryant family was found in Paluski County for the 1870 census. I cannot trace the daughter Nancy Arabella Matheny again until 1900 when she is married and her father Jerry F. Matheny is living in the household in Hill County Texas. It has been said that Jeremiah Matheny was a traveling minister. Dr. Thomas Morton died in the area in 1889 and listed the Arabella Matheny in his estate. We are just trying to find her for the 1880 census to know with whom she was living. If you recognize the term "Arkie" as belonging to the Morton or Matheny families or have any information on a Jeremiah Matheny as a minister, please contact me. dbton@yahoo.com
