Piney Fork is a Township in Sharp County. I do not know what towns exist in this township but i do know this township existed in the 1800's and probably does today. I would suggest to go to the Sharp County,AR genweb page, you can find that by just typing in Sharp County,AR genweb into any search engine and a listing for that will come up. Also another place to seach cemeteries in AR is the AR-Cemeteries website. good luck with your search. Mark Jackson. Thanks so much for this information...any idea why Margaret isn't in records? In 1880 census he was remarried. This has helped a lot, again thanks.

Hi Could someone see if there is a marriage between Thomas Haley and Caroline / Callie Bigham sometime around 1871 (+ or -). I am trying to help out a descendant of Thomas and Caroline. They had the following children: Willie Jane Haley who married a man named ? HELMS, the second child is James Barney Haley. Caroline is listed with the 2 children in the 1880 census for Washington Twp. Sharp County she is listed as married, keeping house. They were divorced some time after that. I would settle for a divorce decree also. The Haley descendant is trying to prove the marriage, can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Ellen Tolleson Reesh

Lanita, Is it ok to post your message to the Izard, Baxter, Indp., Marion, and Fulton Co. sites? These records covered these area also, it might help. This look's like more of our "Government At Work". You have a controlled and safe site for Historical records, but you use it for a gift shop. Then you build another controlled site that will cost many more tax payer's dollars to build than it would cost to build a gift shop. Then you hire staff, that have no first hand knowledge of the records, to oversee of the new controlled site and records, and get rid of the volunteers that had been doing the same job for no cost to the tax payers. It make since to me. Spend more of our tax dollars so we can have another tax hike or have less money for other park systems for people to enjoy. Looks like we might need to consider getting new State Park Staff. ANNOUNCEMENT Re: Powhatan Historic Records Update Date: June 18, 2005 10:27PM Thursday night's public meeting was a great success. About 35 local & national citizens, 5 State Parks Staff, the ASU archivist, and a reporter met and held open frank and revealing discussions about the fate of the priceless historic records recently evicted from the Powhatan Courthouse after many years. Citizens voiced their concerns and the regional state parks official, Marcel Hanzlec from Wynne, gave the parks side. He says the Parks Department leaders are now willing to build a "state of the art vault and research facility" on the Powhatan Park grounds. They still do not want the records back in the vaults which have protected them these past 130 or so years though. They want to use the former research room in the Courthouse for a gift shop, visitor center, and offices for the local Park Superintendent and her crew. The catch is it will take months, or years, to get funding and a plan lined up and still longer to actually build the research facility so the records will probably have to remain in the ASU library for the next 2 or 3 years or more. LCHS still needs public support. We need folks to send letters to the Governor asking why the state spent 1.2 million dollars on the renovation and can't find time, or space, or money to protect the records and honor their long standing Memorandum of Agreement held with the LCHS. We will have to hold their feet to the fire. That is best done with a top down approach. Letters and phone calls to the Governor, CC"d to the Parks Director, State Historian and the local Super get sent to regional legislators and they go to the Parks Director for answers. The GOvernor's office then sends "Letters of Concern" to his Department Directors asking them to make the problem go away. Letters to Mr Mike Beebe and Lt. Gov Win Rockefeller will help. Now that they are running for Governor they will want to win votes in NE Ark by helping out on a topic like preserving our culture and records of our past. Petetions work well. We'll need to get one started and get as many of the regions folks to sign it as possible. Keep the pressure on folks. Hi Hershel, Yes, of course I remember you!! Looks like we finally found the family where we are connected, by marriage anyway. I am just now researching the MURPHYs. 2 of my SCONCE members married into the MURPHYS and I am trying to cypher it all out to find out who, and where and how the two MURPHYS were connected. So where is Hiram [and I am supposing that is who the father was since the wife's name was Emmeline] and Emmeline buried. I will be happy to send you what I have, such as it is. This line is all new to me, so I don't have the names memorized yet. Lanita I'm always late. My ancestors arrived on the JUNE flower.

Dear List, I am looking for my g-g-grandfather James Dallas Carter. There is some info about him in the Ash Flat history book. There it says he is from a pioneer family or something to that effect, but tells nothing of his parentage or where his family came from. Any help would be appreciated. John Haley
Don't know if this is the same bunch but my great great grandfather, Dan Griffith, married Isabell Armstrong daughter of Thomas and Malinda Armstrong on 02/27/1866. His uncle "Dan" married her sister Jane Armstrong. Isabelle was known by the nickname "Babe". Neither of them were born in Sharp County but both came there as children. They are both buried in the Old Baptist Cemetery in Ash Flat, Sharp County, Arkansas. Let me know if there is a connection. MURPHY and Mary Jane [Janie] SCONCE [b. 1869]. I am descendant of Mary Jane [Janie] SCONCE's brother, John H. C. SCONCE [b. 1865] and have lots on the SCONCE family, but a bunch of blanks on the MURPHYS.. Janie and John H.C. SCONCE's step mother [2nd wife of Daniel W. SCONCE SR, mar. 1876], was also Sarah Catherine MURPHY. I believe that Sarah Catherine MURPHY was the dau. of Unknown MURPHY and Emmeline UNKNOWN. Her brother, John W. MURPHY, mar. Mary Jane [Janie], but this is all speculation on my part and am trying to find documentation. All of these can be found in Sharp Co. Census which I have access, but I need to make sure I've got the right family to go with the spouses. Any help is appreciated!! Lanita Sconce Smith I'm always late. Hi Lanita I am Hershel Taylor. Remember Me? I know we are related thru the Arnolds, but didn't realize you were connected to the Murphy's. I am the great grandson of Hiram & Emmeline Frizzell Murphy. Martha Ann Murphy, daughter Of Hiram & Emmeline is my grandmother. Grandmother Martha Ann Murphy married my grandfather Johnathan "John" Monroe Taylor from Wirth, Ar. Sharp Co. Grandmother Martha Ann Is buried in the Baker Cemetery, Sharp, Co. Ar. You can find Hiram & Emmeline Murphy in Roane Co. Tn in 1850. & in Wright Co. MO 1860. Hiram must have died in Mo, for Emmeline is found to be head of house in sharp Co. Ar, I believe in the 1880, may be 1870. I don't have my records in front of me at the moment, you know how that goes. Hershel Taylor Lanita Sconce Smith <ozarkn@grm.net> wrote: Looking to connect with researchers of the above families.
