Thank you for sharing that as that is a useful database. However... To the Family Tree Legends folk: What a ripoff! A lot of those indexes that your site is charging for have been available for free elsewhere forever. How do you get by with this stuff? They make it sound like they're giving away something that isn't theirs to give away in the first place. Makes me wonder how much of their FTL software might be based upon some other company's work... Family Tree Maker, PAF, et al. Hello, I am going to Pocahontas, Randolph County, this weekend and will be going through Hardy and Sharp county. My g-grandfather and gg-grandparents are buried in Highland Cemetery, Sharp County. Is this along US 62? Is it a big cemetery? Does anyone have burial plots so I don't spend a lot of time wondering around? I'll be on a bit of a tight time schedule so any advance planning I can do will be helpful. I'm looking for the headstones of Robert Lee Lindsey d.1947 and Calvin C. > Have you tried this address and had any luck? Try getting a death date Not sure which address you mean, but I should have clarified that from the www.rootsweb.com main page you click on "Searches" at the top. Then on the "Searches" page you can click on the state you want under "Records from Federal and State Resources." The address for Public Record Finder worked fine for me tonight. Several of the links take you to http://find.intelius.com which may or may not be that helpful, depending on what you're looking for, but others, like the California birth index are good. Unless you pay for a subscription to that site, you can search only by last name, so if it's a common name you might have to go through a lot of pages. What state and year are you looking for? Dale

I am looking for the parents of a LouElla (or Elsie) Davis who was born between 1879 - 1882 in AR. At 19, she married Alvin Godwin in Fulton County, AR in 1900. Their marriage license lists Ella as "19 from Hardy AR". In the 1900 census, Ella and Alvin Godwin lived in Pleasant Ridge, Fulton County, Arkansas; by 1910, they lived in Mammoth Springs, Fulton County, Arkansas with their two children Laura and Arvil. Both census reports list TN as Ella's parents' place of birth. I lose track of Ella and the two children after 1910. Alvin goes back to live with his parents. I did see an Ella McGee, married (but no husband listed), with two kids - Lorine O and Orvale L Godwin on the 1920 Pottawatomie, OK census. However, her age is not quite right in this census (34 yo, which would make her born in 1886), although the children's ages are correct. Also this census lists her place of birth as TN and that of the kids to be MO. Her son, Orvale L Godwin corresponds to my great-grandfathe! r's name, so I am pretty sure this is the right Ella. I am looking for Ella's parents who were at one time probably in the Sharp or Fulton County, AR area and also I am looking for her daughter, Laura or Lorine Godwin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
Here's a new twist scammers are using to commit identity theft - The Jury Duty Scam. Here's how it works: The scammer calls claiming to work for the local court and claims you've failed to report for jury duty. He tells you that a warrant has been issued for your arrest. The victim will often rightly claim they never received the jury duty notification. The scammer then asks the victim for confidential information for "verification" purposes. Specifically, the scammer asks for the victim's Social Security number, birth date, and sometimes even for credit card numbers and other private information — exactly what the scammer needs to commit identity theft. So far, this jury duty scam has been reported in Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington State. It's easy to see why this works. The victim is clearly caught off guard, and is understandably upset at the prospect of a warrant being issued for his or her arrest. So, the victim is much less likely to be vigilant about protecting their confidential information. In reality, court workers will never call you to ask for social security numbers and other private information. In fact, most courts follow up via snail mail and rarely, if ever, call prospective jurors. Never give out your Social Security number, credit card numbers or other personal confidential information when you receive a telephone call. This jury duty scam is the latest in a series of identity theft scams where scammers use the phone to try to get people to reveal their Social Security number, credit card numbers or other personal confidential information. It doesn't matter *why* they are calling — all the reasons are just different variants of the same scam. All should be aware of this scam and to not be intimidated by the calls if you receive one - simply hang up. Protecting yourself is simple: Never give this information out when you receive a phone call.
Just thought I would mention that Linda Bloodworth Thomason who was the writer and co-producer for the tv show EVENING SHADE, [as well as the co-writer and coproducer with her husband, for the tv show DESIGNING WOMEN], was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, in Poplar Bluff, MO. She graduated with my 1st cousin, and is very familiar with these parts of the Ozarks! Many of the storylines for Designing Women were based on things in the area, and she used real people's names who lived in the area. Lanita Sconce Smith Daviess Co., MO
