Hello: The library to go to for Sharp county I think is the Historical Society building in Batesville, AR. The library has some date but not a lot. Happy Haunting, Marian

From: GLORIA CARTER <[email protected]> Genealogy article 1 July 2001 http://www.springfieldnews-leader.com/genealogy/koehler070101.html Gloria's column is: http://www.springfieldnews-leader.com/genealogy/index.html Gloria Bogart Carter, 733 South Farm Road 89, Springfield MO 65802 [email protected], 417-869-7060 My Pa-Pa was a Baptist Preacher in the Wright County MO area for over 50 years, with a devoted Christian wife by his side. They were J.R. and Nirva Shanes Bogart.
Everybody... please take a minute and go to: http://news.ozarksnow.com/genealogy/index.html and take a peek at the genealogy column. This is in the Springfield, MO paper. There's a place where you can place your query too... She is looking for some big hits from us to help her prove to the paper that there are many of us out here and that this column is needed and read....both online and in the actual paper. Yes, that's my query... and for the record, I provided all the info to her, except what was found in a Dade Co. book...but that doesn't matter to me... as long as the word is spread far and wide.. Let's help her prove that this type of column, both online and in the paper, is needed!! Thanks for your help, Lanita
Connie, it's a GREAT publication! I faxed my order in on a Mon. paid for priority mail, and received it on Fri. Happy hunting, Debbie in FL
Dear List Members, Here it is the end June and time for the Second Quarterly Report for 2001. Can you believe how fast the time has passed? This one almost passed me by. The ARSHARP Mailing List has 151 members, 109 on the Regular list and there are 42 members on the Digest List. As most of you know by now, the GenConnect Boards have changed. Rootsweb.com and Ancestry.com are continuing their merger and now have merged the GenConnect Boards. I am not sure of my feeling regarding this yet, but will watch it and let you know. I am not one to jump to conclusions quickly. I also take care of many GenConnect Boards and did loose all of them in which I did not take care of the Query board due all the boards, bios, wills, pensions, etc. being combined within the Query board. If you used one of these boards, now you know why I suddenly disappeared. I know many of you have concerns regarding copyright laws and the information you post to the boards and the mailing lists. The following was posted by Rootsweb Management. "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it." If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at [email protected] There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. [email protected] 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom [email protected]
The web address is www.arkansasresearch.com. I would recommend priority mail....it costs more but your order will arrive quickly. Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has any information about the KILLMAN surname in Sharp Co., AR. I'm looking for a David (possibly James David) KILLMAN b. abt 1851. He was reportedly "from" Hickory Valley, AR - not sure if that means he was born there or not. It looks like Hickory Valley is in Independence Co., AR., but very close to Sharp Co. Other AR connections for the KILLMAN surname include: Jane (Jincey/Jinsey) HOPPER KILLMAN who died 7-18-1872 in White Co. Her husband was James KILLMAN, but he died 1848 in Cumberland, KY. Jinsey and James KILLMAN's daughter, Irena (Irenia) KILLMAN married a George W. SCOTT, and I show Irena as dying 10-5-1875 and being buried in the Fredonia Cemetery in White, AR. Also, Jinsey and James KILLMAN's son, Henry KILLMAN d. 1886/1887 in White Co. I also show a Thomas Lee KILLMAN b. 7-13-1864 in AR, but don't know what county. His parents were Henry KILLMAN and Elizabeth COX. Also a Francis Marion KILLMAN b. 1-29-1864 in AR, county unknown. His parents were Robert KILLMAN and Rebecca. Would love any suggestions. Thanks! Mary
That's ok, Sue. The main thing is that you tried, right?! :) I did get a reply from another BALLARD researcher with what I needed to realize that they were the same two people and that I could safely merge them. I guess That I didn't look at your dates before leaping into an answer. This Bullard would be much older as his mother remarried to William Pilgrim in 1879.Sorry!Sue Sincerely, An iPhone User
I don't know if this will help or hinder you. I recieved some info on my Harrison H.P.H.Bullard.He was the son of ?Bullard and Harriet E. Baker They were m before 1866.He was b. Ky They had seven children.Harrison may 1865 Mo. Albert 1868 Ar Price 1870 ar. Thomas 1872 ar. James 1874 ar. andElizabeth 1876 The decendants of Harriet Baker say there was on more son and they think it may have been the John Bullard who was next door to her in the 1900 Independence Co census.Perhaps this is the same John you are looking at. I don't have any more info on him but Harrison Bullard paid property tax on County school district 1890 Independence Co .Harrison was also on the 1900 Stone Co census.Sue Sincerely, An iPhone User
Good Morning, I have what appears to be duplicates in my files. Perhaps someone knows the answer to my question? The 1st John B. BALLARD is in this family: Descendants of George Ballard 1 George Ballard b: 1859 in Arkansas .. +Salina Unknown b: 1863 in Arkansas ... 2 Melburn Ballard b: September 1885 ... 2 Evie Ballard b: November 1887 ... 2 Pearl Ballard b: January 1892 ... 2 Otter Ballard b: March 1894 ... 2 Nora A. Ballard b: August 1896 d: October 06, 1905 in Maxville Cemetery, Sharp County, AR ... 2 John B. Ballard b: March 1900 ** The 2nd entry is: John Batson Ballard, b. March 3, 1900, d. August 25, 1974. Buried Cave City Cemetery, Sharp County, AR. Are these two men the same? Thanks for any help you can give. Jean M. Cuevas

Pat, Did you say the courthouse is only 8 miles from your cabin? We could have come to visit you, had we been there! My sister and I were driving in the area, and turned into the courthouse facility, not realizing exactly what we were getting into! We almost couldn't get out, it was so busy! No Jean, we are 8 miles from Hardy, but still not that far from Ash Flat. We are half way between Hardy & Mammoth Springs. Hopefully I will get back there there this fall. My husband was there this last month and enjoyed every minute of it. The wild turkeys were calling and the cardinals and he said quite a few fire flies also were abundant. When my mother and I visited a couple of years ago, she told me about her grandfather, P.J. (Preston) Young, a brickmason. She remembers as a child (in the 30s) traveling from Jonesboro to E.S. to visit cousins and having to pull over on the side of the road for someone to throw up. There was one of those little stone bridges there and she saw a placard stating that it was built by "P.J. Young and Sons." Of course, she can't remember now exactly where it was, so we didn't try to look. She also had me running all over Batesville looking for a stone church that had a similar placard; she said she saw it on a visit in the early 90s. We couldn't find it. She thought it was the Baptist Church (on Main?) and we even went into the office and asked if anyone knew about it to no avail. If such placards survive, I would dearly love to have a picture. If you live in the area and maybe know an oldtimer that might have knowledge of such, could you contact me? Thanks so much.
