Thanks, Myrvin, I guess I had better re-visit Gary's webpages, then. I don't recall seeing the cemetery there. In what part of Sharp County are you looking? The answer is "yes", but would need to know what church or area. Nancy First, I dont think this would be considered list clutter, Not to me anyway. Because I would also like to know the good places to search. I was reared at Wirth Ar sharp county. I have family buried in the Baker Cemetery, Taylor's, Baker's. Dodge's etc. My Taylor family come from stoddard Co MO, to Armstrong Ar Sharp County, I am also related to the Kellettes from oregon Co Mo.the Ash Flat courthouse has a lot of Sharp co info, but they do not allow anyone to copy the old records, you can use a camera, but need a zoom lens. Hello list, Does anyone know if there was a Methodist Episcopal Church with a cemetery in Sharp Co in 1839-1889? Thanks, Debbie
Dear Connie, Which Jacksons are in the Ash Flat History Book? My GGGreat Grandparents were Matthew Avery and Louisa Ann "Eliza" Gay JACKSON. We are trying to find out who his parents were. We know his dad's name was Thomas and was from VA, but we cannot find him. Also do not know the name of Matthew's mother. We have plenty of info on Louisa, but nothing about Matthew. Thank you, Patti McSwain ----- Original Message ----- From: "Constance J. Hello List The church beside the Highland Cem. is First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. I talked to the pastor there. He said that there are other Cem. in the country area but that was the only one known as the Highland Cem. The pastor also said there was only one man that he knew of with a working knowledge of that Cem. He gave me his name & number. If you need it email me & I will give it to you. I don't want to put it out to the public because he might not appreciate that. Laura Howard Scottsburg, IN
Jean, There is a Highland Cemetery in Sharp County according to the Cemetery Book. It gives no direction and it does have older people buried there. The new cemetery as you go into Cherokee Villiage name is Oaklawn. Myrvin
Hi Laura, I appreciate your reply. I suspected that it might be a church cemetery. Hopefully, we can find out something more about the burials there. Strange that there was no Highland listed among the Cemeteries on the Sharp County page. Jean It has been a long time but I think the name of the church was something like...First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. I know that Missionary was definitely in the title on the sign. This probably isn't much help BUT....The Highland Cemetery is at a church on the right hand side when you are going toward Ash Flat. I forgot the name of the highway. Thanks so much, Pat. That would be very much appreciated. I wish that I had found that information out at the beginning of my time there, not at the very end, and I would have made the trip, myself! I have gained lots of info since my last communication here, and the web keeps getting thicker. I found my Grandmother, Margaret Elvira Roberts married James F.Gibson in Fulton Co.in 1895. She was in the 1900 census in Sharp Co. in the household of her brother, John W. Roberts, with her 2 year old son, Ransom N. Gibson, indicating that she was a WIDOW. In the census of 1910, in Hughes Co., Ok. Ransom Gibson, nephew, age 12, was living in the household of William R Dority. I am aware of the Dority connection in my family, so I know, by the other names listed as living in the Dority household, that this Ransom Gibson is my uncle, son of Margaret. In the 1920 census, Margaret Gibson, DIVORCED, has living in her household, son Ransom age 22, and daughter Mollie, age 15, in Kings Co. California. My question is, where was my grandma Margaret, and my mother Mollie ( born March 2, 1904, in Citra Ok., Indian Territory) in 1910, and who, when, where , and what is, was James F Gibson? Was Margaret a widow of James F Gibson in 1900 as indicated, Or divorced from him, as indicated in the 1920 census? Was my mom ligitimate or illegitimate? Why was my Uncle Ransom not living with my grandma and my mom in 1910? I' m not asking for much am I? I have always been curious about my mom's paternal history, but she knew nothing about it, as grandma was very closed mouth about any thing in her past. Does anyone out there know anything about this family? Thanks----Norma
I am searching for the Marriage records of Alexander C Jack and Almedia A Duke. I believe they would have married just prior to 1880. I find them in the 1880 Izard county census with a 6 month old daughter. I believe they were in Sharp County before they were in Izard County. Also any other Jack in Sharp county, that would have been Alexander's brothers or sisters. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Bev Jacks
Hello all, I just stumbled across something and it got me to thinking that I might be searching the wrong name. I have been told that James Mark or Marks born in Missouri married Melinda Ricketts born in Missouri and had the following children: Clifton, Martin, Virgie, John H. and Addie Christean Virgie married Amsiah or Amziah Malone in Sharp County, I don't know about the others. I recently lost all my family tree info and am having to start over again so I'm pulling out old files..... In doing so, in a copy of Sharp County, Arkansas marriages, I show a James Mark 19 of Smithville, Arkansas marrying Malinda Rickard 16 of Smithville, Arkansas on Dec 21, 1890. Of course, this just happened to be on the bottom of a page I had copied on my Malone's and I don't have the next page, which I now desperately need... Do any of these names sound familiar? I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Jonnie
